The Department of Metallurgy (Metallurgical Engineering Major) of Chongqing University was first established in 1935. At that time, it was affiliated to the Department of Mining and Metallurgy, majoring in mining and metallurgy. After the founding of New China, the metallurgical major was separated from the Department of Mining and Metallurgy and the Department of Metallurgy was established. Before 1979, our school had two majors: ironmaking and steelmaking. The scope of the current metallurgical engineering major includes the original three undergraduate majors, namely iron and steel metallurgy, non-ferrous metallurgy and metallurgical physical chemistry.

The Department of Metallurgical Engineering of Chongqing University is one of the departments with the oldest history, the strongest faculty, and the highest academic status and school-running level in my country. The Department of Metallurgical Engineering (Metallurgical Discipline) of Chongqing University is one of the only first-level metallurgical disciplines in the country authorized to confer doctoral degrees, namely, it has three doctoral programs in iron and steel metallurgy, non-ferrous metallurgy, and metallurgical physical chemistry. Department of Building Materials Engineering

The Department of Building Materials Engineering, School of Materials Science and Engineering, Chongqing University (hereinafter referred to as the Department of Building Materials), the former Department of Building Materials of Chongqing University of Jianzhu University, consists of Inorganic Non-metallic Materials Engineering undergraduate major. Postgraduate training includes a master's program in materials science, a master's program in materials physics and chemistry, a doctoral program in materials science, and a postdoctoral mobile station in materials science and engineering.

The undergraduate major of inorganic non-metallic materials engineering was the undergraduate major of building materials engineering before the 1990s. This major was founded in 1959. It was awarded the master's degree in 1983 and the doctoral degree in 1995. After decades of hard work, it has developed to a certain scale and has important influence and status in the field of building materials nationwide. From 1959 to 2001, it has trained more than 2,560 undergraduate students, more than 80 master's students, and 7 doctoral students. The students trained are all over the country, and they have become the backbone of the national building materials industry. Currently, there are 350 undergraduate students, 50 master students, and 10 doctoral students in this major.

The Department of Building Materials currently has 38 teachers, including 4 doctoral supervisors, 7 professors, 15 associate professors (or senior engineers), 12 lecturers, and 4 teaching assistants. In the past five years, teachers have published more than 250 scientific research and teaching papers, published 5 monographs, won 7 provincial and ministerial level and above awards, and transferred 10 scientific research results, with direct economic benefits of 8 million yuan.
