The biggest selling point of this new product is the use of Mini LED backlight technology. As the core brand of network drainage, Huawei, together with the TV machine market with an annual shipment of about 200 million, and Chinese mainland is the largest TV assembly production base in the world, the Mini LED backlight has once again become the brilliant achievement of Chinese mainland's "striving for the first global production capacity and market of mini LEDs".
However, the release of Huawei V75 Super, in the view of traditional LED backlight manufacturers, actually brought the Mini LED backlight to an end. It can be said that most of the entire Mini LED backlight industry has cooled down, leaving only an unattainable TV set!
Mini LED backlight with higher lamp bead arrangement density also makes the division of independent light control areas more detailed, bringing higher contrast and brightness than traditional direct LED backlight. Huawei said that its V75 Super has 2,880 physical backlight partitions. With the support of clear light control PRO+ technology, the contrast is as high as10 million, and the peak brightness of 3000nit HDR is supported.
In addition to more accurate light control and higher brightness, the increase in the number of Mini LED also makes the distance between the backlight and the LCD screen closer, so the display screen can be made thinner.
When Huawei introduced the V75 Super, it said that the size of the MiniLED it used (0.075mm2) was only1120, and as many as 46,080 Mini LED chips were placed under the 75-inch screen.
Calculate that 46080 is divided by 120, which is equivalent to the area of 384 direct-type LED backlight beads, which is equivalent to the area of 5 side-emitting LED strip backlight lamps.
46080 divided by 2880 partitions is equivalent to one partition 16 chips. There are so many chips in a partition, in fact, the backlight doesn't need such high brightness at all, because too high brightness will also lose the contrast details of the image and can't achieve a more vivid display effect, so the chip area should be smaller, so don't let the Mini LED backlight have high brightness and higher calorific value.
In this way, the LED chip with Mini LED backlight does not need much LED epitaxial capacity at all, and basically the existing LED chip factory can produce it without expanding production. According to the information learned in Li Xing industry, the whole LED chip processing link has increased losses, which is actually the number of diamond wires and LED spectrometers for cutting mini LED wafers, so now the capital market has begun to dig out the targets of listed companies that cut diamond wires and LED spectrometers for mini LED wafers.
In addition, unlike the integrated design in which the direct LED backlight can be driven by lights, the current Mini LED are basically driven by separate lights, and each partition is driven by a signal. Therefore, Huawei's 2880 partition will have multiple LED driving chips, and then drive them together according to the black and white partitions of the LED display content.
Someone in the industry told Li Xing that in fact, 2880 partitions are processed by the simplest circuit, only 100 ordinary LED array driver chips are needed, and the cost is several hundred dollars. However, if all direct LED backlights are upgraded to Mini LED backlights, there will be a market capacity of more than 200 million TV sets and a sales market space of 20 billion, so the capital market will discuss the target of Mini LED backlight driver chips.
However, with the maturity of Mini LED backlight technology, the number of mini LEDs in each partition will be less in the future. Without increasing the partition, the driving chip of mini LED backlight is either integrated or replaced by a simpler chip. Due to the high maturity of LED driver chip technology, the iteration speed will be the same as that of direct LED backlight that quickly replaces part of the side-emitting LED backlight, and it will basically pass without feeling in the market.
In fact, the whole TV backlight industry has joined the production ranks of Mini LED backlight, because they have their own direct LED backlight production line, and the production of Mini LED backlight only increases equipment, and the production process, materials and technology are ready-made, so Mini LED backlight TV has long been listed.
The root cause of this wave of Mini LED backlight hype is that panel factories have accelerated the self-made matching of horizontal Mini LED backlight, LED chips and packaging factories have to extend to the downstream industrial chain, and some TV manufacturers have to integrate the backlight industry upstream, which has aroused a lot of attention in the market. To put it bluntly, many people enter the field of TV backlight in order to grab orders from traditional TV backlight manufacturers and grab the market.
This is actually related to the fact that traditional TV backlight enterprises have no confidence in Mini LED backlight, because in the eyes of these manufacturers, Mini LED backlight is still an upgraded version of traditional direct LED backlight, and it is also the simplest partition area light control technology. It only increases the number of partitions, and the similar effect of Mini LED backlight can be achieved by increasing the number of partitions of direct LED backlight. This did not solve the fundamental problem of LCD display short board, but spent a lot of ineffective energy and cost to solve the technical difficulty, so it once despised the hype effect of Mini LED backlight.
In fact, industry insiders told Li Xing that there is no generation difference between Mini LED backlight and traditional direct LED backlight in all processes and equipment, and all processes and equipment are still modified on the general technology platform.
However, because the number of LED beads in Mini LED backlight is hundreds of times that of traditional direct LED backlight, if the input of automation equipment can not solve the production efficiency, it is equivalent to hundreds of times more production process costs. This is the focus of the current high price of Mini LED backlight.
Due to the luminous characteristics of LED, each mini LED backlight bulb needs to be tested, paired and installed. Moreover, due to the process fluctuation in the LED manufacturing process, the defective single light bulb needs to be repaired again after the real lighting aging, and the labor cost and production and processing cost soar, which is also the main reason why the traditional TV backlight manufacturers hesitate in a short time and are taken advantage of by the upstream and downstream manufacturers in the industrial chain with Mini LED backlight products.
In the capital market, in the manufacturing process, it has become the mainstream to try to tap the suppliers of LED backlight production line equipment, including LED chip testing, packaging and repair equipment manufacturers.
As for the display effect of Mini LED TV, is it really amazing? Will it be better than the traditional side-lit LED TV or direct-lit LED TV, and the price is several times more expensive? In fact, it is still a false proposition in the market.
Because the real resolution reaches 4K and 8K, and the panel size reaches 70 inches, the influence of backlight on the display effect is much smaller. How to deal with the film source and video content is the key to truly solve the TV display effect. In fact, the 4K TVs on the market are still backlit with side-emitting LEDs, and even the direct LED backlight is not coming, which is the reason.
Of course, organic light-emitting diode technology will also improve, and the cost of OLED TV will also decrease, so that the Mini LED TV market is not optimistic about the traditional LED backlight factory, and it is inevitable that there is no willingness to actively expand production, and no one is so fooled.
