Hybrid deceleration patent

Canadian automobile supplier Inmotive recently launched a brand-new two-speed reducer for electric vehicles, named Ingear two-speed gearbox. Ingear is specially developed and designed for the next generation of electric vehicles, which is not only simple and durable, but also combines the advantages of more efficient powertrain, lower cost and longer battery life.

At present, most of our pure electric vehicles use single-stage reducers, and the reduction ratio is about 10 to 1. Because the driving motor generally has the characteristics of low-speed constant torque and high-speed constant power, it can produce great torque at a very low speed, unlike diesel locomotives that need to slow down and increase torque to start. Although the single-stage reducer can obtain relatively direct acceleration performance and extremely smooth and continuous acceleration feeling, the energy consumption will increase obviously when driving at high speed.

Ingear introduced by Inmotive replaced the second reduction gear with a continuously variable chain gear set. When shifting gears, the actuator will guide the sprocket teeth in place within the time required for one revolution of the wheel, thus effectively increasing or decreasing the transmission ratio. Ingall's patented geometry keeps the motor and wheels synchronized, thus achieving a continuous torque flow throughout the shift.

By improving the operating efficiency of power transmission system in low and high gear, energy waste can be reduced and cruising range can be extended.

Inmotive has recently completed a large-scale prenatal test of Ingear, and the Ingear gearbox has been integrated into the demonstration car, which is fully prepared for full listing. The electric vehicle equipped with Ingel gearbox will reduce the cost of ownership, increase the battery cruising range, shorten the acceleration time, and improve the road capacity, maximum speed and climbing ability.

Before Inmotive, Bosch, Schaeffler and other mainstream auto parts suppliers have also introduced two-speed reducers for electric vehicles, but their main principle is still based on the traditional mechanical gear set structure.

The power performance of pure electric vehicle with single-stage reducer depends entirely on the driving motor, which requires high performance, that is, the driving motor can provide high driving torque in constant torque area and high speed in constant power area to meet the requirements of vehicle acceleration, climbing and high-speed driving.

When the speed of electric vehicles reaches the limit, there is no room for improvement, so most electric vehicles drive at a speed limit and consume a lot of power at high speed. Therefore, if we can match a multi-speed gearbox with reasonable speed ratio range and optimize the timing of motor power explosion, the economy and extreme speed performance of the vehicle will be greatly improved.
