Jite Intellectual Property: What are the drawing guidelines for design patent applications?
All patent application drawings require a sufficient number of views to constitute a complete disclosure of the subject matter of the application. For design patent applications, any appropriate surface shading or dashed lines may be included to indicate non-design elements that are not claimed in the application. Drawings are usually required to be written in black ink on white paper. However, black and white photos may also suffice if sufficient views are shown. Color drawings or photographs may be submitted only upon filing and approval of a petition by the USPTO and payment of an additional fee.
