The gray beard is also a frequent visitor to the teahouse. He is old, but he doesn't look old. He likes joking and gets along well.
He likes to speak well of others and flatter others. Seeing a circle of black lines around the eyes of Lao Shuan, he guessed that he might be ill, but when Lao Shuan denied it, he immediately overturned his statement. This is different from the hunchback five young master's attitude towards life that feels that life has passed.
The gray beard likes to say auspicious words, which makes people like it, and is willing to inquire about new things. His curiosity made him not hesitate to lower his dignity. He asked Uncle Kang "humble" and even called him "Uncle Kang"! I have a gray beard, but I call people "uncles". It is this petty life that makes him such a person who does not seek wealth and fame, but seeks to drag out an ignoble existence and fill the rest of his life with social anecdotes. This is a carefree and boring person. In this respect, he is consistent with the hunchback five young master and even other tea drinkers. The similarity between white beard and other tea drinkers is the word "leisure". "Leisure" is one of the morbid living conditions of people emphasized by Lu Xun. Only when you are "free" can you have time to watch the excitement, watch traffic accidents, watch people fight, watch people kill, and even you don't know what to watch. Mr. Lu Xun gave an example: a person spat in the street, then squatted down to look, and soon a group of people would come around to look, but they didn't know what they were looking at. "Leisure" and "security", and "security" will never change, and China will always be a backwater.
Grey beard is not an old man, but I'm afraid he has some glorious history. It is impossible for an ordinary person to leave a beautiful "gray" beard. At least, he is also a grandparent with children and grandchildren. There is no doubt that he has a strong feudal consciousness in his bones. Perhaps because he is not an old man, Uncle Kang doesn't think highly of him. When the gray beard said, "What's the pity of hitting this kind of thing?" Uncle Kang "looked disdainful" and "sneered": "You didn't hear clearly." This is really wronged, gray beard. In this dialogue, readers will feel that it is not that the gray beard didn't hear clearly, but that Uncle Kang didn't make it clear. This shows that Uncle Kang's "domineering" and his gray beard's "listless".
Grey beard thinks he is knowledgeable and smarter than others. When all the tea drinkers didn't understand why Yu Xia said Ah Yi was pitiful, he first concluded that Yu Xia was crazy. He thinks he is smarter than others, but an "epiphany" clearly tells readers that he is actually more ignorant and numb than others. Among the tea drinkers in the teahouse, the most pitiful one is the young man in his twenties, and the most ridiculous one is this gray beard.
What's more sad is that his stupid behavior has been unanimously recognized by all tea drinkers, and they have fallen into the abyss of numbness and ignorance together. By extension, for thousands of years, the feudal rulers of China used this method to fool the people and let them have a full meal at the feast of human flesh for the rulers to enjoy.
Humpback five young master
Among the tea drinkers who drank medicine, the hunchback five young master appeared first. He is called the Five Young Masters, but he can't make a living. "He always lives in a teahouse every day, coming the earliest and going the latest", which shows that he is an old friend of the Qing Dynasty. "Young Master" and "Bouncing" are both old, I'm afraid. As a descendant of the royal family, his mind is filled with royal thoughts, of course, and the Qing Dynasty has come to an end, so his words and deeds have the taste of poverty and muddling along.
He sat in the corner, not wanting to attract others' attention, sitting alone. But being idle is really boring, so I chose to face the street so that I can see pedestrians and accidents. This shows that he is already an urban idle person whose only life content is killing time.
He has nothing to do. He has a little money to live on, but not much. I'm afraid even "fried rice porridge" is a rare delicacy for several days. Without money, there is no status and identity. You see, Hua Laoshuan and his wife don't like him very much either. When he entered the teahouse, he asked twice, but no one answered him, although the old couple were busy burning medicine at this time. He's almost a walking corpse.
"Old Shuan hurried out to make tea for him." Carefully savor the meaning conveyed by this sentence, as if Old Shuan didn't like his arrival very much. However, since he has come, the old customers can't drive him away, so they have to deal with it themselves.
The hunchback five young master always exudes the frustration of the old man. I also saw the black line in the eyes of the old bolt. Gray beard's language is lively, funny and flattering, and his words ("Old Shuan is busy. If his son ... ") is depressed and full of sadness. In the teahouse, he only cares about drinking tea or watching street scenes, and generally doesn't joke with people. But even such people are "suddenly happy". That was after he heard Uncle Kang say that Yu Xia was hit in the mouth by Aunt Red Eye. Why? Because Yu Xia said that "the Qing world belongs to all of us", it was obviously scolding the Qing Empire. Of course, the hunchback five young master doesn't want to listen, which is equivalent to scolding himself. Of course, he was sincerely glad that his enemy was defeated. This description can also be seen from his strong old man's breath and the sense of imperial power that can't be erased in his bones.
The tea drinker's conversation ended with a sentence of "crazy" from the hunchback five young master, which was meaningful. It stands to reason that it seems more reasonable for people in their twenties to pick up this plot after they finish speaking, that is, "crazy". People in their twenties also suddenly realized.
"Crazy." Humpback five young master nodded and said.
And the author just inserted a Kang Dashu at this time. On the surface, the languages of the two roles are irrelevant.
Why do you want to deal with it like this? First of all, this is the natural order of things, and it is indeed what Uncle Kang said after he finished, which is more real. Life scenes are sometimes illogical. Secondly, this kind of treatment vividly depicts the old-school mental state of the hunchback five young masters. This "madness" is obviously his soliloquy, which is when he sits alone in the corner of the teahouse. In a word, the hunchback five young master is the representative of a kind of people who have nothing to do with me. They also influenced the society at that time to a certain extent, making it infected with a decadent atmosphere.
The hunchback five young master is lonely, and his loneliness stifles the sobriety of others.
People in their twenties
In the third chapter, I also wrote about a man in his twenties twice.
For the first time, Kang Dashu said that Yu Xia advised the old man to rebel, and his first reaction was that he:
"Ah, that's not bad." A man in his twenties sitting in the back row looked very angry.
When people understand that Yu Xia called Ah Yi pitiful, he followed the gray beard to realize:
"Crazy." People in their twenties also suddenly realized.
Most people can't understand Yu Xia's propaganda of revolution, which is the sorrow of social numbness. Young people in their twenties should get rid of the naivety of teenagers and the stubbornness of old people, have a clearer understanding of the world and accept new democratic and scientific ideas more easily. But he didn't understand it, and he soon reflected it. If nothing else, he was very angry. The faster he reacts, the more he shows his ignorance. In this "group chat" in the teahouse, he finally echoed "an epiphany" and said that Yu Xia was crazy, which made the "youth" even more sad.
Dingzijie youth
This society is really "sick", not only this young man; Wasn't it laughed at by all the young people that Hua Laoshuan went to T-street to buy human blood steamed bread for his son?
"Hum, old man."
"I'm glad ..."
"Several people passed by him," he said when he saw Hua Laoshuan. "A person still looks back at him ... much like a long-term hungry person who sees food, and his eyes flash with a grab light. "Cold autumn, dark morning, I came to the street to catch hot spectators, suddenly found an" old man "mixed up. I feel strange. It seems that this "old man" is very poor and is still making trouble. It seems that this is purely the patent of "us" young people.
There are too many such young people. "In a blink of an eye, they have embraced a large group of people." Those people in twos and threes suddenly cooperated in a pile and flooded forward. "'3322' is not isolated,' a bunch of cooperation' is more common." Blink of an eye shows the shortness of time, while Hug and The Tide see the surge of fighting. Young people's youthful enthusiasm, that's all. Look at killing people for fun.
These boring and numb spectators strongly impacted Mr. Lu Xun's sensitive mind. Mr. Lu mentioned in his works more than once, for example, "All stupid and weak citizens, no matter how healthy and strong, can only be meaningless propaganda materials and spectators." (Preface to Scream) They are collectively ignorant, so that the voices of some sober revolutionary pioneers (such as Yu Xia) are still not understood and accepted by them. This era, this society, is really sick!
Yu Xia prototype
Most of the characters' names written by Lu Xun have profound meanings, such as Kong Yiji. Without Confucius' rich cultural support, he could not embody a typical image of a down-and-out scholar who was deeply poisoned by the feudal imperial examination system. Moreover, Mr. Lu Xun himself has more than 100 pen names, and each pen name refers to something. His first pen name is blade master, which means "Suddenly". When he was born, his sword was drawn. In the novel Medicine, Hua Laoshuan's family and Yu Xia's family are two main lines: one bright and one dark. Yu Xia in the article died, and so did Hua Xiaoshuan. The death of these two young people is the sorrow of Hua and Xia. Therefore, no one can rule out this division of Mr. Lu Xun: this is the sorrow of China and the sorrow of the Chinese nation.
The novel Medicine was written on April 25th, 2009+1965438. On the eve of the May 4th Movement, the bourgeoisie, which led the Revolution of 1911 at that time, failed to complete the revolutionary task of anti-imperialism and feudalism because of its compromise with feudal forces and imperialism. They are divorced from the masses and dream of relying on the strength of a few people (including the use of terrorist means) to replace the revolutionary movement of the masses. 1July 6, 907, Xu Xilin assassinated Anhui Governor Enming. After the failure, Eun-ming's soldiers brutally cut out his heart and fried the food. Qiu Jin was jailed for this, and died heroically in Xuantingkou, Shaoxing in July of 15. Against this background, Mr. Lu Xun started to write Medicine with the aim of "exposing the pain of diseases and attracting the attention of treatment".
Mr. Lu Xun used Qiu Jin as the prototype of Yu Xia's life and used it to mourn Qiu Jin, the heroine of Jianhu Lake. According to the name, it is generally interpreted that "summer" and "autumn" are relative, and "jade" and "gold" reflect each other. Both "jade" and "gold" come from "jade", which is often used to praise beauty in China names. Hua Laoshuan's surname is "Hua", "Xia" and even "Huaxia" to write about the decline of society at that time. He is not only superstitious, but also kills his compatriots to cure diseases with blood. Tiezi thinks this statement is too far-fetched. In fact, the moral of the names Lu Xun is very direct. Yu Xia is a homonym for Xia Chao, and Qiu Jin is spelled as Qiu Jin. Qiu Lai in summer, so "Yu Xia" is "Qiu Jin". The "Yu Xia" here is not used to allude to "Qiu Jin", nor is it an allusion, but it is straightforward and a sketch that people can understand at a glance. It not only entrusted Mr. Lu Xun with respect and mourning for Ms. Qiu Jin, but also entrusted Mr. Lu Xun with respect and regret for people with lofty ideals in the democratic revolution. In the social background at that time, this not only requires a far-sighted vision, but also requires a heroic courage and heroism.
