The Department of Materials of Zhejiang A&F University was established in September 2005. Its predecessor was the Department of Forest Engineering and Forest Products Chemical Engineering, which was established in 1958.

The Department of Materials of Zhejiang A&F University is the core unit for awarding the first-class master's degree in forestry engineering and the supporting unit of Zhejiang Wood Engineering Center. The Department of Materials has a provincial key laboratory of wood science and technology, with nine sub-rooms, including wood science, glued materials science, wood chemistry and modification, wood processing and wood-based panels, wood drying, analysis and testing, wood equipment and automation, forest product display and wood processing training base. The laboratory has valuable instruments and equipment worth more than 7.5 million yuan, such as Fourier infrared spectrometer, thermal analyzer, X-ray diffractometer, cone calorimeter, scanning electron microscope, Paalmann planer, automatic test press and artificial climate box.

The Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering was formerly the Department of Forestry Machinery when it was founded in 1958. 1986 was renamed the Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and now it is the Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. Professor Yao, the leader of electromechanical discipline, is mainly engaged in the research of engineering mechanics, forestry engineering and mechanical engineering. This subject has a mechanical engineering experimental teaching center and an engineering training center. The experimental teaching center consists of nine experimental sub-rooms, including engineering mechanics, mechanical principle, hydraulics and pneumatics, mechanical design, measurement and testing technology, electromechanical control, metallography, CAD/CAM and engineering training center, with a total equipment value of more than 8 million yuan.

Department of industrial design
Founded in 2000, the Department of Industrial Design now has two undergraduate majors: industrial design (division of labor and art) and wood science and engineering (interior and furniture design). The specialty covers many fields, such as product design, furniture design, interior design, toy design, visual communication design, display design, etc., with obvious discipline characteristics, and integrates professional teaching, theoretical research, design creation and social practice.

The Department of Transportation originated from 65438-0958 Department of Forestry Machinery, majoring in wood cutting and transportation. 1986 the teaching and research section of forestry machinery was renamed as the teaching and research section of electromechanical engineering (hereinafter referred to as the department of mechanical and electronic engineering), and two undergraduate majors of mechanical design and its automation and transportation and a master's degree in forestry engineering were set up.
