School of Electrical and Information Engineering of Changsha University of Science and Technology was established in 2003. It was formed by integrating the automation specialty of Changsha Jiaotong University on the basis of the former Electrical Engineering Department of Changsha University of Electric Power. There are 4 departments (centers) and 8 scientific research institutes. At present, there are 26 graduate students, 26 undergraduate students and 26 international students. The college adapts to the development of modern science and technology and the social demand for talents, and strives to cultivate and bring up senior engineering and technical talents with strong practical ability and innovative ability.

The college has three undergraduate majors: electrical engineering and automation, electronic information engineering and automation. Electrical engineering and automation specialty is the "first-class specialty construction point" of the Ministry of Education, and electronic information engineering specialty is the key specialty in Hunan Province. There are five master's degree awarding points: power system and its automation, high voltage and insulation technology, traffic information engineering and control, control theory and control engineering, and circuit and system. Among them, electrical engineering and its automation is a key discipline in Hunan Province, which has a history of nearly 50 years and has a wide influence in society. The discipline of traffic information engineering and control has the right to award doctoral degrees.

The college has excellent experimental and research platforms, including the comprehensive laboratory of distributed power generation and power system jointly established by the central and local governments, the demonstration laboratory of Hunan Electrical and Electronic Experiment Center, the excellent practice base of Hunan Electric Power Company, the excellent course of "Circuit" in Hunan Province, the key laboratory of Hunan University for Safe Operation and Control of Power System, and the Industry-University-Research Cooperation Demonstration Base of Hunan University for Power System Operation and Control.
