French weapons during World War II

Pistol series

MAS 1873 is the first double-acting revolver used by the French army. During the period of 1873- 1887, it produced about 337,000 revolvers at the San Etienne Weapons Factory.

Although it was quickly replaced by M 1892 revolver, it was still widely used during World War I and was handed over to the reserve forces in 1940. After Nazi Germany occupied France, this gun became the "patent" of underground resistance organizations.

MAS 1874 is a special version of MAS 1873 for French officers. About 3.5 pieces have been issued, lighter than 1873 to 1874, and the gun body is dark. It's the etiquette gun and self-defense weapon of French officers!

MAS 1873 uses11×17mm1973 pistol with a capacity of 6 rounds and a maximum range of 50m.

After World War II, MAS 1873 retired from active service in the French Army.

Rifle series

Lebel M 1886 rifle, also known as Lebel rifle, was invented by French Army Colonel Nicolas Lebel. It was the first most successful smokeless powder gun in history.

1887, Lebel rifle was installed as a standard rifle by the French army, firing 8×50 mm Lebel rifle bullets, which were supplied by the built-in magazine with a capacity of 8 rounds.

Total length 1300mm, weight 4.4 1kg and effective range 400m. 1920 stopped production, and * * * produced about 2.88 million pieces, which were still widely used during World War II.

Betty's rifle is produced by the French military and used to replace Lebel's rifle. There are many models.

After the production of MLE 1886 rifle was started in Lebel, the French authorities began to demand the production of a carbine Lebel rifle for the cavalry, but the Lebel carbine was quickly rejected by the cavalry because of its slow loading method, and the French authorities began to seek a new design.

At this time, the railway engineer Bettier designed a new carbine by using the improved Lebel rifle bolt combined with Manlixia 3 rounds magazine. Because it is very convenient to load the magazine,

It passed the evaluation in 1890 and was officially named MLE 1890 carbine.

Betty's full name is Andre Virgil Paul Marie Betty. After the success of MLE 1890 carbine, he designed MLE 1902 rifle on this basis.

The total length of MLE 1902 rifle 1 125mm, and the empty gun weight is 3.6kg.1907. The MLE 1907 rifle was developed on the basis of MLE 1902 rifle.

The total length of MLE 1907 rifle is 1305 mm, and the empty gun weighs 3.8 kg. It fires 8× 50mm Lebel rifle bullets, which are provided by the built-in magazine, with a capacity of 3 rounds. The specific output and production stoppage time are unknown.

MAS-36 rifle

1936 adopted the MAS-36 rifle for the first time to replace the Bettier series rifles and the Lebel M 1886 rifles in service at that time.

MAS-36 is a short and portable carbine, with a total length of only 102 1 mm and a weight of 3.7 1 kg. It uses 7.5×54 mm rifle bullets and is supplied by five built-in magazines.

1949, after the semi-automatic rifle MAS-49 was put into service, MAS-36 stopped production and retired to the second line. However, in the Second Middle East War, French airborne troops used MAS-36 equipped with sniper mirrors to destroy enemy snipers.

M 19 17RSC semi-automatic rifle

The alias RSC M 19 17 is a semi-automatic rifle equipped by France at the end of World War I, which stopped production at the end of World War I and produced about 86,000 rifles.

It is called RSC because its developers are Ribeiros, Sartre and Shawchart.

The total weight of RSC M 19 17 is 5.25kg, and the total length is1331mm. Use 8× 50mm Lebel rifle bullets, which are provided by 5 bullets with internal leakage clips.

Submachine gun series

MAS-38 submachine gun

MAS-38 submachine gun originated from the weapons manufacturing plan of 19 18-1922. The general idea of this plan is to design a submachine gun, a light machine gun and a semi-automatic rifle to update the French weapons.

However, due to the construction of maginot line, the French government was unable to equip the above weapons in large quantities due to insufficient budget.

In the end, only light machine guns were equipped with troops, submachine guns were produced in small batches, and semi-automatic rifles were not developed at all.

A small number of submachine guns are MAS-38.

Although the production plan was put forward in 19 18, it was approved by the relevant French authorities in 1938, and the production has not started in 1939 1 month.

Since then, due to the overcast war in continental Europe, St. Etienne Arsenal began to produce and manufacture MAS-38.

1On June 22nd, 940, France surrendered to Germany. By this time, only about 2000 MAS-38s had been produced.

It is unknown whether MAS-38 will continue to produce during the German occupation. 1946, MAS-38 was discontinued. So it is said that MAS-38 produced about 2000 pieces.

However, some data show that Germany renamed the captured MAS-38 as 7.65 mm MP722(F), representing France, which was used by the French army of Vichy French government.

So the output can only be said to be controversial now.

Machine gun series

Shaosha M 19 15 light machine gun

The main designers are Shao Sha, Sutri, Ribray Euler and Gradit, so they are also called CSRG machine guns. It was the most productive light machine gun in World War I, but at the same time, its unreliability in performance was also criticized.

Total length 1 143 mm, total weight 9.07kg.. It uses 8×50 mm Lebel rifle bullets, provided by 20 half-moon magazines. And it is the standard light machine gun of the allied forces in World War I, and * * * produced 262,000.

According to the different caliber of bullets in different countries, Shaosha M 19 15 has also been changed into various calibers, among which .30-06, which is used in the United States, produced 37,000 rounds and used 16 magazine.

Poland also customized some M 19 15, and the caliber was changed to be capable of firing 7.92× 57mm Mao Se bullets.

Hutcheson M 1909 light machine gun

There is not much information about Hutchison M 1909 light machine gun, because it is only a transition. On the basis of M 1909 light machine gun, Japan copied the eleven-year light machine gun of Dazheng, which is what we often call "crooked stick".
