Dual-clutch gearboxes are divided into dry dual-clutch and wet dual-clutch. In the early years, the dry dual-clutch developed by Volkswagen and Dede LUK had many problems. The complaint rate was still high at that time. The dual-clutch relies on air cooling to cool down, but the effect is not ideal. When the engine is running at high speed, the temperature cannot be lowered, and the clutch can easily burn out. It was later replaced with a BorgWarner wet dual clutch.
First of all, let’s talk about BorgWarner. BorgWarner is a China Development and Development Investment Company jointly established in 2008 by the National Development and Reform Commission and FAW, SAIC, Dongfeng, and Changan. It is very engaged in domestically produced R&D. Due to the difficulties, another joint venture company was later established with BorgWarner called BorgWarner Transmission Systems Co., Ltd. to specialize in the research of dual-clutch gearboxes.
This BorgWarner is still very powerful. They have their own dual-tuonic technology. This technology makes the clutch friction plate more wear-resistant and resistant to ultra-high temperatures, and can withstand engine speeds of more than 9,000 rpm. . This is no problem for 3.0T engines, not to mention household 1.5T, 2, and 0T are all a piece of cake.
Let’s talk about Getrag. Getrag is a German transmission company and one of the largest transmission system manufacturers in the world. Getrag also has its own unique advanced system called the on-demand Smart Actuation intelligent execution system. The function of this system is reflected in clutch operation and clutch cooling when shifting gears. It can accurately control the working status of the oil pump inside the gearbox and adjust the oil pressure, thereby reducing energy waste and reducing fuel consumption.
FAW-Volkswagen uses BorgWarner’s DCT, while Geely GS, GL, Chery’s Tiggo 7, and Baojun 560 all use Getrag’s DCT, and these two brands The dual-clutch transmission is also really good.
There are reasons why domestic cars like to use dual-clutch gearboxes. First, the cost of dual-clutch gearboxes is low. Dual-clutch gearboxes can be produced using the original AT gearbox production line. Secondly, AT gearboxes Basically all the patents for CVT gearboxes and CVT gearboxes have been registered abroad. It is difficult for Chinese people to make breakthroughs and bypass their patents.
It is worth mentioning here that BYD’s dual-clutch gearbox was developed by itself, but there are still many problems, such as frustration and abnormal noise. After all, BYD is the real domestic manufacturer. I hope BYD can continue its efforts and do better.
