Oblique three formations: mostly evolved from Pu Yue, Meteor, Qiu Yue, Wandering Star and Comet. See Figure 1. This formation can also evolve into a long snake formation, as shown in Figure 2. As well as the long hook formation, see Figure 3. The attack of the oblique third formation is usually launched with an angled or half-winged wing. 02
Square array: Black’s four stones are arranged in a square shape, hence the name. This formation mostly evolved from the openings of stars, fixed stars, meteors, Venus, rising stars, etc. See Figure 4. The characteristic of the four-corner formation is that it is easy to form 2 or 3 "swords" (chess saying goes: three swords in hand are invincible), and the situation is conducive to the development of depth. The key points of offense and defense are to seize the lead and counterattack, and there are fewer opportunities to play chess. In Figure 5, Black's four-corner formation intersects with White's four-corner formation, which is called a double four-corner formation. It is a typical example of seizing the lead and counter-seizing it. 03
Plum Blossom Formation: The formation shown in Figure 6 is called the Plum Blossom Formation because Black’s four stones are like plum blossoms. The plum blossom formation mostly evolved from Pu Yue, Xian Yue, Han Xing, Hua Yue and Qiu Yue. In the traditional formation, it is a type of strong offense and weak defense. When attacking, the attack is usually organized by combining diagonal and straight movements and continuous jumps. There are so many changes. However, please note that some plum blossom formations are bound to lose if you hold black, as shown in Figure 10. 04
Sword Formation: See Figure 7. The moves made by the black and white sides form a sword shape, hence the name. The sword array seems to be Huayue's patent, and is occasionally seen in Qiuyue and Puyue. Black often chooses G10 or J7 in the ninth move, and also chooses H10, J8, G9, I7 and other points. The battle basically starts at the hilt of the sword. 05
Swallow formation: Figure 8 is a typical swallow formation. White 2 is the swallow's head, white 8 and 6 are the wings, and black 9 and 7 are the tail wings. The shape is like a swallow in flight. The Yan formation is also a formation with many variations, but most of them are black wins. There are many starting points that can evolve into the Yan Formation (some may not take shape until after ten moves), most commonly seen in stars, stars, and meteors. 06
Bagua array: Figure 9 is the most standard Bagua array evolved from Xia Yue. Black's pieces are all connected in a sun shape, similar to the knight steps in chess. In the Bagua array, any line has a black man defending it, and a white man is unable to attack. When switching between offense and defense, it is very easy for Black to find a good player who can connect three and two routes with one stone. At that time, White has no way to attack, no way to defend, and there is no other way to defeat it. This formation is a representative masterpiece of the traditional Chinese folk formation "defend and wait for attack" tactics. Special reminder
Among the popular formations, they are mostly named after the black square chess shape, so the positions of the white square pieces in various formations will be partially different. Therefore, the changes in folk chess formations are dominated by black.
The above-mentioned six formations all have many changes, and the outcome cannot be determined in one word. Among them, there are hundreds of variations of Xie San, Jian Formation and Yan Formation. Yan Formation, Long Hook, Long Snake, and Plum Blossom are all formations with strong attack power. Bagua is the best defensive formation.
Oblique Three Long Snakes are both black losers, and Jian and Yan are both black winners. At that time, the future victory or defeat of the formation was not clearly stated, and I hope everyone will treat it differently.
