How to draw a design drawing for a patent application and what content should it contain?

Patents are divided into three types: invention patents, utility model patents, and design patents. Among them, design patents are the most common. If you want to apply for a design patent, the pictures must meet these requirements.

1. Photo requirements for design patent applications

(1) The picture should be clear to avoid the appearance design of the product not being clearly displayed due to focusing and other reasons.

(2) The background of the picture should be single and avoid content other than the design product. There should be an appropriate brightness difference between the product and the background to clearly show the product's appearance design.

(3) Photo shooting should usually follow the principle of orthographic projection to avoid distortion caused by perspective that affects the expression of the product's appearance design.

(4) Photos should avoid strong light, reflection, shadow, reflection, etc. that affect the expression of the product’s appearance design.

(5) The products in the photos should generally avoid containing interior contents or foils. When the appearance design of the product must be clearly displayed by relying on interior contents or foils, the interior contents or foils are allowed to be retained. .

2. Requirements for pictures in design patent applications

(1) As for the appearance design of three-dimensional products, if the key points of the product design involve six sides, the six-sided formal drawings must be submitted. Projected view. If the product design key points only involve one or several aspects, at least orthographic views and three-dimensional views of the involved aspects should be submitted, and the reasons for omitting the views should be stated in the brief description. As for the appearance design of flat products, if the key points of the product design involve one surface, only the orthographic view of that surface can be submitted. If the product design key points involve two sides, orthographic projection views of both sides should be submitted.

(2) If necessary, the applicant shall also submit expanded drawings, sectional views, sectional views, enlarged drawings and change state drawings of the design product. In addition, the applicant can submit reference drawings, which are usually used to indicate the purpose, method of use or place of use of the product using the design.

(3) Colors include black, white, gray series and color series. For design patent applications that state in the brief description that color protection is requested, the color of the picture should be firmly colored and not easy to fade.
