Good Morning, everyone!

I'm Li Yihao, a teacher at the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. Thank you very much for the opportunity provided by the school to share with you the experience of innovative education for college students. The topic of my report is "Stimulating students' interest, tapping innovative potential and improving innovative ability".

20xx began to participate in college students' innovation and entrepreneurship in April, and organized the college students' innovation practice team "Merckoll Studio" through school recruitment and free registration. Over the past two years, with the care and support of the school and college leaders, the membership has expanded from the initial five to more than 600, from mechanical, electrical, art, food industry and other 14 departments. The management mode of "mentor group-autonomous Committee-ordinary member" has been gradually established. From the presentation of project ideas to the implementation, development and later promotion, students can realize self-organization and self-management, and the tutor is responsible for project evaluation and technical answering questions.

Teachers and students of the innovation team worked together to develop 12 products such as "five-axis CNC machine tool", "3D printer", "upper limb rehabilitation exoskeleton" and "hybrid vehicle". In the process of leading students to engage in innovative practical activities, there are four problems that have been bothering me:

1. What role does innovative practice play in undergraduate education?

2. How to motivate students to innovate?

3. How to position the innovation tutor?

4. How to innovate interdisciplinary?

In the past two years, I have conducted in-depth thinking and exploration on the above issues. I went to college in 1997. At that time, many people thought that undergraduate education was still elite education. What is an elite? There are two kinds of elites recognized by the society: one is the industry elite and the other is the person with technical expertise. The other category is highly educated elites, such as doctors, masters and bachelors. Since 1999, the elite education in universities has gradually changed to mass education, and the number of graduates in China will reach 7.56 million in 20 16. In today's fierce employment competition, how to make students become socially recognized elites by receiving undergraduate education? In my opinion, only on the basis of mass education can students be encouraged to learn "skills". The "skills" here are not skills, but the ability to solve problems, innovate and practice. Only in this way can students find their own direction and orientation when they graduate, whether it is work or postgraduate entrance examination. The role of innovative practice in undergraduate education is to enable students to increase their skills.

(B) How to motivate students to innovate?

Our students are the best of their peers in high school. For various reasons, they were not admitted to famous universities. There is both dissatisfaction and inferiority in their hearts. Our task as teachers is how to guide them to get rid of inferiority. Inspire their disobedience. "Trust students, trust students" is the decisive factor to stimulate innovation. Allow students to make mistakes, and making mistakes is also a kind of learning. In practice, I found that our students have very strong innovation ability. For example, the project of "Upper Limb Rehabilitation Exoskeleton" has advanced international level in technology and has been recognized and encouraged by Professor Conor Walsh of the Biological Design Laboratory of Harvard University. "Five-axis CNC machine tool" has successfully realized five-axis desktop machining, which has the domestic advanced level; "Hybrid Electric Vehicle" has also made a major breakthrough in hybrid simulation and control. "3D printer" has developed from monochrome to bicolor, from single material to multiple materials, and food printers and ceramic printers have been derived. Products such as "quadrotor aircraft" and "VR virtual reality" have made great breakthroughs in technology and are striving to achieve commercialization. These advances are a great encouragement to students.

Helping students broaden their horizons is also an important means to motivate students. On June 5438+ 10 this year, with the financial support of the Academic Affairs Office, I led 1 1 undergraduates to participate in maker faire Maker Exhibition held in Shenzhen, and participated in Maker Exhibition and international forums, which broadened students' horizons, stimulated greater enthusiasm for innovation and promoted the development process of new projects.

(3) How to position the innovation tutor?

Innovative practice requires all-round communication and integration between teachers and students. Many college students' self-development is not perfect, and their self-awareness, self-control and self-planning ability need to be further improved. In the practice of innovation, innovation instructors play more roles as guides and promoters. At the same time, it is also the organizer and regulator of innovation activities. Students are the main participants in innovation, and teachers, as organizers and regulators, create activity conditions, design objectives and tasks, guide students to solve specific technical problems in innovation, give play to the guiding role of technology and theory, and lead the direction of innovation.

In addition, sharing weal and woe with students is also a promoting factor of innovation. Our team is mobile. Every year, students graduate and new students join. As an iron teacher and a mobile student, it is very important to keep the technical upgrade. First of all, the specific progress of students' innovation, as the instructor, must be clear, and the key technologies must be mastered by themselves, so that the technical backbone will not be unable to get in after graduation; The second is to do a good job in echelon construction, so that the next class of students can take over the baton and move on when the technical backbone graduates.

(d) How to carry out interdisciplinary innovation?

Our team members come from all departments of the school. How can we make students of all departments have something to do? Firstly, according to the hot spots of social demand, interdisciplinary development projects are set up to attract students from different majors to participate. For example, in August, 20 16, students from mechanical and electrical college, electrical engineering college and food technology college successfully trial-produced the small-scale integrated brewing equipment of "virgin beer", and in August, 20 15, students from mechanical and electrical college and material science college successfully trial-produced the vacuum preparation method of artificial muscle. In the course of the project, we should pay attention to cultivating students' "T-type" ability, which can not only be good at their own majors, but also surpass their respective disciplines. In addition, interdisciplinary innovation is inseparable from the strong support of the school. Through the school's policies and credit incentives, a comprehensive evaluation standard is formulated to attract more students to participate in innovative practice activities. In addition, by combining teachers from different majors to create an innovative tutor team, it also greatly promotes the integration of disciplines.
