Why loosen the soil?
First of all, loosening soil can loosen soil, dredge air and raise ground temperature. At the same time, it is also beneficial to the activities of soil microorganisms, promoting the decomposition of organic matter, increasing the supply capacity of soil nutrients and improving nutritional conditions.
Secondly, loosening soil can regulate soil moisture, preserve moisture and prevent drought. After loosening the soil, it can break the soil hardening, cut off the capillaries, prevent the evaporation of water below the soil layer, and achieve the function of storing water and preserving moisture. When there is too much water, it can make soil water evaporate and make plants grow and develop well.
Soil loosening method
1, loose soil in the yard:
For general yard and vegetable garden loosening, the simplest method is to add organic soil on the surface from time to time, including compost soil, peat soil, various animal droppings and so on. Sometimes you can add sand.
When adding, all these soils must be mixed before adding. Do not add the same sample to the surface. (Compost soil can be added separately. )
Never loosen the soil with tools in the yard and vegetable garden where plants have been planted, which will affect the roots of plants. Only good soil can be added to the surface. Add it at least once a year, or once in spring and autumn.
Adding organic soil can not only loosen soil and improve soil quality, but also contain nutrients such as nitrogen fertilizer.
Covering plants in small gardens with soil often also helps to improve soil quality, because these covers will be integrated into the soil after decomposition.
If there are no flowers and vegetables in the yard for the time being, you can turn over the soil in the newly reclaimed new garden and vegetable garden. Generally speaking, before planting vegetables, you can loosen the soil above 15~20 cm.
If you want to plant perennial plants such as roses, you have to dig over 30 cm deep.
After turning over the soil, add some organic soil and mix it all. After a season, you can plant it.
Many people are afraid of earthworms, but in fact earthworms are the most beneficial insects to the soil (it is not suitable to raise earthworms in flowerpots because there is too little space to loosen the soil, which will hurt the roots).
Soil with earthworms means that it must be fertile, because earthworms will turn over the soil and make the soil loose. Earthworm excrement is also the most beneficial organic soil. So when you see earthworms, you must protect them. Some people even buy live earthworms to loosen soil.
Step 2 loosen the soil in the flowerpot
Pay attention to the looseness of the soil in the flowerpot. First of all, don't leave cracks on the edge of the basin soil, because when watering with cracks, water will flow down from the edge and the roots can't absorb water!
Therefore, there should be no cracks in the soil of basin soil. If there are cracks, it should be compacted by hand before watering to make the water seepage very uniform.
Plants usually change soil once or twice a year. At this time, you can loosen the soil and add new potted soil. Peat soil and river sand can be added in moderation.
Usually, the soil in the basin is too hard, so it's not time to change the basin, so we can only loosen the soil on the surface! Be careful not to uproot it. If it hurts, it's best not to loosen it.
3. loosen the soil:
The soil on the grassland is too hard, so there are many ways to deal with it.
The first is to make holes. The gardener will use a hole-digging machine to make holes in the grass. They can all be used on the big lawn, and even people can drive on it.
This kind of digger will dig out some clods and form small holes in the grass after use. It's best to lay a good layer of loose soil to fill the pit.
Generally, a smaller drum punch can be used in the yard. The purpose of the digger is to poke holes in the grass to help loosen the soil. Some of the following tools are huge and some are light, so you can choose the one that suits your garden.
In fact, our purpose is not to make holes, but to make slender holes in the ground to help the water on the soil surface flow underground, so the longer the needle, the better.
(But pay attention to safety when using it, don't hurt yourself too quickly, and don't let children use it. )
There is also a kind of spiked shoes, which is more common because it is convenient to use. This kind of spikes can poke a hole as long as they are tied to the feet and walked on the grass.
Don't use these fists after rain or when the soil is too wet after watering, it will hurt the turf. At the same time, it is also necessary to avoid using it when it is too dry, which will cause damage to turf and grass roots.
In addition, some new good soil can be added to the lawn every year, which is called topdressing outside the roots. There are some special topdressing soil on the market, and you can also make it yourself.
Another method is to loosen the soil (calcium carbonate) with gypsum. Gypsum can be used not only in grasslands, but also in flower beds and vegetable gardens.
Because gypsum is calcium sulfate, it is equivalent to adding beneficial calcium and sulfuric acid when used. For plants that need acidic soil, the benefits are even greater.
However, it should be noted that gypsum will increase the acidity of soil, which is not necessarily good for the original acidic soil, so alkaline elements such as lime should be added to neutralize it.
When used on the lawn, it is watered once every three years.
(Note: Not everyone agrees that gypsum can loosen soil, and drilling holes regularly may be the best way. But calcium sulfate has other benefits. )
