Difference between silicone structural sealant and silicone weatherproof adhesive

Silicone structural sealant can bear certain force, and silicone weatherproof adhesive is mainly used for waterproof sealing. Silicone structural adhesive can be used as the frame, which can bear certain tension and gravity. Silicone weather-resistant adhesive is only used for joint filling and cannot be used for structural sealing.

Building sealant

Silicone building sealant is a kind of neutral curing high-quality building silicone weatherproof sealant. Excellent weather resistance and aging resistance, high and low temperature resistance of -50℃+ 150℃, good adhesion, can be extruded under various climatic conditions, and quickly react with moisture in the air to solidify into a durable, high-performance and elastic silicone sealants, which can resist natural corrosion such as oxygen odor, ultraviolet rays and rain. Mainly used for caulking sealing of doors, windows and architectural decoration.

Excellent weather resistance

Among the main technical indexes of silicone weatherproof sealant, sag, extrudability and surface drying time characterize the construction performance, and displacement ability and mass loss rate characterize the performance of cured weatherproof sealant. The mass loss rate of weather-resistant adhesive is equivalent to the thermal weight loss of structural adhesive. This paper mainly investigates the performance changes of weather-resistant adhesive after long-term use. The higher the mass loss rate, the more serious the performance degradation after long-term use.

Different technical indicators

The main function of silicone weatherproof sealant is to seal the joints between plates. Because of the temperature change and the deformation of the main structure, the plates often move, so the joint width will also change. This requires that the weather-resistant adhesive has good ability to bear joint displacement and will not crack under the condition of long-term joint width change. This property is called the displacement ability of weather-resistant adhesive, which is different from the "displacement tolerance" of structural adhesive.

Excellent cohesion

Silicone structural sealant is a kind of one-component neutral curing sealant, which is specially used for bonding and assembling glass structures in building curtain walls. Can be easily extruded and used under a wide temperature condition. It is cured by moisture in the air into excellent and durable silicone rubber with high modulus and high elasticity. This product does not need to be primed on glass, and it can produce excellent adhesion.

Wide application range

Structural adhesive refers to high strength (compressive strength >; 65MPa, steel-to-steel tensile bond strength >: 30MPa, shear strength > 18MPa), can bear a large load, aging resistance, fatigue resistance, corrosion resistance, stable performance in the expected life, and is suitable for bonding strong structural members. Non-structural adhesive has low strength and poor durability. Because of its ordinary and temporary bonding, sealing and fixing properties, it can only be used to bond structural parts.
