The original Fisheries Department of the Fisheries College of Huazhong Agricultural University was established in 1970, which is the earliest fishery department in China's agricultural universities. 1993 Fisheries College was established with the approval of the Ministry of Agriculture. Aquaculture is one of the six national key disciplines in our university, and it is the first freshwater aquaculture discipline established in Chinese universities. At present, the college has two majors: aquaculture and aquarium science and technology, and three departments: freshwater fishery department, aquatic biology department and fishery resources department. Key Laboratory of Freshwater Aquaculture Biology 1 each, and Herbarium 1 each; More than 70 acres of campus teaching practice base 1 unit; More than 20 off-campus teaching and research practice bases. After more than 30 years of construction, the college has become an important base for the training and scientific research of senior aquatic professionals in China.

The Fisheries College has trained more than 5,000 undergraduates and 260 postgraduates. At present, there are 720 undergraduate students, 95 master students and 26 doctoral students.
