He was named a professor in February 1995 and a doctoral supervisor in December 1997. In 1992, he was awarded the title of Expert with Outstanding Contributions by the Ministry of Aeronautics and Astronautics. He has enjoyed special government allowances from the State Council since October 1992. In February 1998, he was appointed as the dean of the Department of Electronic Engineering of Beihang University. In August 2002, he was appointed as the dean of the School of Electronic Information Engineering of Beihang University. In September 2005, he was appointed as the director of the Science and Technology Development Department of Beihang University.

Professor Zhang Xiaolin has been engaged in higher education for 25 years. He is loyal to the party’s educational cause and has made outstanding contributions in teaching and scientific research. Since 1995, he has been the main teacher and the person in charge of the construction of the course platform for the undergraduate core professional basic course "Electronic Circuits (1)". This course was rated as a Beijing and national quality course in 2003. In 2004, he won the title of Beijing Outstanding Teacher and the Baosteel National Outstanding Teacher Special Award. The project "Reform and Practice of Cultivation of Innovative Talents in Electronic Information Engineering Major" that he presided over won the first prize of Beijing Teaching Achievement Award and the second prize of national teaching achievement award in 2005. He has published 6 textbooks and monographs, has presided over 9 teaching reform projects, and is currently editing "Basics of Electronic Circuits", "Integrated Circuit Design and Practice", "Embedded Systems" national "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" undergraduate key textbooks and "Telemetry" "Remote Control System" is a key textbook for graduate students of the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense. In 2005, he won the first Distinguished Teaching Teacher Award of Beihang University; in 2006, he won the Beijing Municipal Distinguished Teaching Teacher Award and the National Distinguished Teaching Teacher Award of the Ministry of Education.

Over the years, Professor Zhang Xiaolin has combined scientific research and teaching to guide undergraduate graduation projects, internships, curriculum design, and electronic information competitions for thousands of times. Students under his guidance have won the championship in the rotorcraft category of the China Aerial Robot Competition, There are hundreds of awards in electronic information competitions such as the special prize of the National Challenge Cup, the first prize of the National College Student Electronic Design Competition, and the first prize of the Beihang Feng Ru Cup. Supervised 66 master students and 39 doctoral students.

Professor Zhang Xiaolin is currently the deputy director of the Basic Teaching Steering Committee for Electronic Information and Electrical Subjects of the Ministry of Education, the leader of the expert group of the National Undergraduate Electronic Design Competition, and the leader of the expert group of the National Undergraduate Electronic Design Competition Embedded System Special Competition; He has presided over the formulation of the basic requirements for electronic technology teaching by the Education Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education; since 1995, he has completed the proposition, review and technical organization of the 5 National College Student Electronic Design Competition and the 3 National College Student Electronic Design Competition Embedded System Special Competition. Nearly 600 schools from 33 provinces and autonomous regions across the country participated in the competition, which played an important role in promoting teaching reform and improving teaching quality.

Professor Zhang Xiaolin is currently an editorial board member of Journal of Electronics, Journal of Aeronautics, and Journal of Telemetry and Remote Control; executive director of the China Electronics Society, chairman of the DSP Application Expert Committee, strategic research consultant for the Ministry of Science and Technology’s National Medium and Long-term Science and Technology Development Plan, Information Technology He is an expert in the medium and long-term science and technology development planning strategy of the Ministry of Industry, an expert in the professional group of general assembly electronic information systems, and the leader of the technical group of the National Development and Reform Commission's major special project terrestrial digital television transmission system and standards joint working group.
