The influence of later generations
As an outstanding microscopic observer, Levin Hooke is very important in the history of biology. It was not until the19th century that the research of micro-science surpassed his level. Professionally, he is an amateur scientist, and his main occupation is a businessman. Even in scientific research, he has retained some habits of businessmen.
For example, he keeps some of his methods secret, fearing others to master them, likes to "operate independently" and rarely shares scientific research results with others. On the other hand, he is a truly outstanding scientist.
His fascination with scientific research, his rigorous and diligent academic attitude and style, and his contribution are rare not only at that time, but also in the whole history of biology.
