ECVT gearboxes and CVT gearboxes do not have much connection in terms of mechanism principles, but their names are similar. Many people mistakenly believe that they are close relatives. In fact, the driving feeling of the ECVT transmission is similar to that of the CVT transmission, but the construction of the two is different. The ECVT gearbox consists of two motors and a set of planetary gear mechanisms, excluding steel belts and wheels. Its main function is to integrate and utilize the power of the motor and engine to reduce fuel consumption. Therefore, the ECVT transmission is the core of Toyota's hybrid technology, and many automakers have to find other ways to avoid Toyota's patented technology. On the other hand, the transmission and speed changes inside the CVT gearbox are achieved through steel belts and steel wheels. The purpose of speed change is achieved by changing the diameter of the two steel wheels. Because the diameter of the steel wheels is infinitely variable, the CVT gearbox is also called a CVT. Although the working principles of the two transmissions are different, they both have their own advantages and scope of application.
