The College was founded in 1956, formerly under the former Ministry of Food Industry, and was renamed "Hubei Light Industry School" in 1972. In 1987, in cooperation with the former Hans Saidel Foundation of the Federal Republic of Germany, it took the lead in introducing the dual vocational education and teaching mode of the Federal Republic of Germany. In 1996, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it took the lead in holding higher vocational education in China.
