Nokia rises again, the former king is still the king

Why is Nokia, which young people look down upon, still living well?

After reading this article, you will know how awesome Nokia is.

When mobile phones entered our lives, I wonder if Nokia was our first mobile phone? Nowadays, when we recall that cell phone that looked like a thick brick and that familiar ringtone, are we filled with memories? Maybe many young people have never used Nokia.

When I was a kid, I remember that not many people could afford Nokia mobile phones.

(1) Nokia’s magnificent turnaround

Before the end of the 19th century, Nokiano had been in the rubber and wood pulp business until Michelin, a Nokia executive at the time, discovered radio technology business opportunities and began to get involved in the field of radio.

In the beginning, the share of the radio business in the company's overall business was never high, but it was the origin of Nokia's transformation into a communications technology enterprise in line with the era of industrial and technological revolution.

In 1960, the president of Nokia established the Electronic Information Department, and electronic information technology developed. During those years, the world's first smartphones and wireless communications were launched.

In 1979, Nokia began to develop the first generation wireless communication (1G) network standard;

In 1982, it built the first car phone based on 1G network;

< p> In 1991, the world's first call based on the second-generation wireless communication standard GSM (2G) was completed in Helsinki;

In 1992, Nokia released the world's first GSM mobile phone.

No one would have thought that Nokia, a small factory in Finland, would lead to the development of wireless communications and mobile phones and the development of the world.

A technology giant came out of nowhere. Thinking about us at that time, the Internet was not very developed, and this was unimaginable.

(2) More than ten years of mobile phone dominance

In 1996, the Nokia era came, and after the transformation from regional enterprise to global enterprise.

Since then, Nokia mobile phones have been selling well all over the world. It can be said that people all over the world are paying for them.

In this long history, one after another best-selling products became classics of the time.

In 1998, the Nokia mobile phone and the memory game Snake that used the Chinese input method went to China, making countless Chinese people called them eternal gods at that time.

In the 21st century, people are no longer satisfied with this mobile phone that can only make calls and send text messages. Nokia once again seized the opportunity. In 2002, Nokia launched its first smartphone Nokia 7650, which was also Nokia's first slider phone, the first five-dimensional joystick phone and one of the earliest camera phones in China have become the objects of people's pursuit, Nokia's generation of mobile phones.

Nokia was not satisfied with the status quo at the time, so it released the Nokia 1100 Classic Edition. This mobile phone also set a sales record of 250 million units. Except for the Nokia 1110 released in 2005, which has sales equal to its sales, no model has been able to break or even come close to this record.

All other mobile phone manufacturers are sweating.

Nokia is popular not only for its unique design and advanced communication and information technology, but also for its most advanced first-generation system, Symbian system. Its silky smoothness, small memory, low power consumption, and strong battery life are unmatched by other systems.

Even other manufacturers later used the Symbian system, such as Samsung, Motorola and other big brands.

This reminds me of the Nokia trend at that time. My dad spent a lot of money to buy a Nokia.

At that time, some people around me used Nokia.

At its peak, there were ten mobile phones in the world, including seven Nokia. Its influence in the world is understandable.

After 2011, Nokia fell rapidly in the market like a defeat. In 2013, in the crisis at that time, there was no choice but to cut off its own arm and turn the mobile phone business into a One-tenth of the market value of 7 billion yuan was sold to Microsoft at a low price, and it withdrew from the mobile phone market.

An era is coming to an end. Just like the president of Nokia said at the time: We didn't do anything wrong, but I don't know why, we lost.

Later, Ollila said frankly when summarizing the reasons for the failure of Nokia mobile phones.

The company once lacked strategic vision, was unwilling to adjust its strategy, ignored market demand and software research and development, was arrogant when facing competitors, and had internal bureaucracy, etc., which were all internal reasons for its frustration.

The external factor is that the increasingly perfect Android and iOS systems have attracted most users. In the cruel market, users of the Symbian system have been taken away instead.

Its exit also announced the end of the Nokia dynasty and has become a memory for generations of young people.

(1) A technology giant, the rebirth of Nirvana.

Since mobile phones can no longer be made, they can be used as capital. This is Nokia’s internal thinking. Then I started to adjust, and I also made up my mind in communication technology.

During the personnel adjustment, a large number of employees were laid off, so that today among the 100,000 Nokia employees, less than 1% still have employee cards from 2012.

The purpose of this is to reduce other expenses and focus on technology.

Patents are the only remaining asset in the Nokia dynasty.

When Nokia sold its mobile phone business, it left behind a huge number of patents. In the subsequent 3G and 4G fields, there were 16,000 patents in the United States and 20,000 patents in Europe.

At that time, no matter what manufacturer, even big manufacturers like Apple, Samsung, and Huawei, they still relied on Nokia's technology and had to pay for the use of Nokia's patents.

Nokia relies on its own patents and has brought huge patent income.

During this process, Apple, Samsung and other mobile phone companies all had patent disputes with Nokia, and all ended in failure. In aspects such as navigation systems and communications, it is difficult for mobile phone manufacturers to avoid Nokia patents and have to pay compensation.

(2) In the 5G field, Nokia’s efforts

By 2021, the "Who is leading the 5G patent race?" report released by the German consulting agency IPlystics shows that Huawei Ranking first with a 15.4% share of 5G standard essential patents, Nokia ranked third with a market share of 13.2%.

This is also after its success in the 4G field. Not only Huawei started in 5G, but Nokia also followed the starting line. It was thought that Nokia had faded out of the mobile phone market.

In fact, Nokia is also preparing for 5G. It has recruited 40,000 engineers globally to conquer 5G technology, and now has more than 2,000 5G patents and 30,000 communication patents.

We think Huawei is far ahead in 5G, but we don’t know that Nokia is also catching up behind us. The United States also paid Nokia US$200,000 in patent fees in 2017.

(3) In terms of mobile phones

In recent years, Nokia has launched a series of smartphones of its own, but in terms of performance configuration, compared with mobile phones from domestic manufacturers, It can be said that sales are dismal.

Then, the consumer group changed, and feature phones were sold to the elderly.

This may be an opportunity. This time, Nokia has gained a firm foothold. Nokia will ship 11 million feature phones in 2021. It also occupies a large share of feature phones around the world.

Nokia took the lead in proposing the slogan of "technology is people-oriented", established its own dynasty, and did not give up despite the ups and downs.

Although it is difficult to see it again in the mobile phone market, it meets us in another way. In the face of difficulties, Nokia recognized its own problems and corrected them in time.

They all warn us that no matter one person or another, living in a state of drunkenness today is not enough. For us ordinary people, we should continue to keep up with the times and constantly learn to improve ourselves.
