He joined American Applied Materials Company in 1980s, and served as global executive vice president and president of Asia region of Applied Materials Company. He is responsible for the business strategy, planning and implementation of Applied Materials Company in the whole Asian region, with special attention to the global infrastructure construction. He has led a number of technological developments and brought many successful breakthroughs in semiconductor process equipment technology. Later, he transferred to the field of regional and global market development and made great achievements, becoming one of the top decision-making giants of the company.
In 2005, he retired from Cai Ying and became the CEO of Shanghai Hua Hong Group. With more than 100 patents, it is known as the "king of applied materials patents". Wang Ningguo is also an enterprise innovation consultant of Stanford University in Greater China and an overseas consultant of China's Ministry of Science and Technology.
