What is glass wool (what is glass wool like)

Glass wool is a kind of material similar to cotton, which is made of molten glass fiber. Its chemical composition belongs to glass, and it is an inorganic fiber with good formability, low bulk density, satisfactory thermal conductivity, good thermal insulation, sound absorption, corrosion resistance and stable chemical properties.

Glass wool is an elastic felt made of glass fibers with a diameter of only a few microns. It is made of centrifugal glass wool felt, a patented centrifugal technology unique to Owens Corning (OC for short), by melting glass fibers and adding thermosetting resin as the main environmental protection formula binder. Different moisture-proof veneers can be compounded online according to the use requirements. It has a large number of tiny pores, which make it play the role of heat preservation, sound absorption and noise reduction and safety protection. It is the best material for thermal insulation, sound absorption and noise reduction of steel structure buildings.

Glass wool is made of quartz sand, limestone, dolomite and other natural minerals as the main raw materials, supplemented by some chemical raw materials such as soda ash and borax. In the molten state, it is spun into flocculent fine fibers by means of external blowing system, and the fibers are intertwined with each other in a three-dimensional way, showing many fine gaps. This gap can be regarded as a pore. Therefore, glass wool can be regarded as a porous material with good heat insulation and sound absorption properties.
