Overview of Jifuling’s treatment of muscle atrophy
Muscle atrophy: Muscle atrophy belongs to myopathy and motor neuron disease. It is a type of disease that is difficult to treat in the world. These diseases Patients often lose their ability to live and even die due to muscle weakness and muscle atrophy. Muscular wasting diseases include many diseases, the common ones include myasthenia gravis, progressive muscular dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, progressive spinal muscular atrophy, syringomyelia, polyradiculitis, peripheral neuritis and Neuromuscular atrophy caused by various reasons belongs to this type of disease.
In the past two decades, Shanxi Sanbu Liubing Traditional Chinese Medicine Research Institute has gradually explored clinical methods for treating muscle atrophy. Director Liu Huisheng analyzed the causes and pathogenesis of muscle atrophy. Using the principles of traditional Chinese medicine to strengthen the spleen and stomach, benefit the liver and kidneys, replenish qi and activate blood, and dredge meridians, a prescription for the treatment of muscular dystrophy, Jifuling, was formulated. After clinical application, good results have been achieved, and more than 2,000 cases have been treated so far, with patients all over the country except Tibet. The overview of clinical applications in various muscle wasting diseases is now summarized as follows:
1. Progressive muscular dystrophy:
Progressive muscular dystrophy is a primary disease. Recurrent rhabdomyosarcoma, a muscle wasting disease, belongs to the category of impotence in traditional Chinese medicine. Most patients have family history and hereditary disease, and it mostly occurs in teenagers. Commonly affected areas include the shoulder girdle, pelvic girdle, or facial muscle atrophy. There is also muscle atrophy of the limbs, and adolescent patients are often accompanied by pseudohypertrophy, most commonly in the gastrocnemius muscle. Due to the weakness of the pelvic girdle muscles, I walk with a "duck gait". I have Galvez's phenomenon when I lie down and stand up (my hands must support my knees or objects to stand up). There are no pyramidal tract signs or fasciculations. I feel normal and my intelligence is normal. ; Creatine in urine increased and creatinine decreased; creatine phosphokinase (CPK), phosphoglucomutase, aldolase or lactate dehydrogenase in serum increased, but the increase in CPK was more obvious. Electromyography and muscle biopsy are more helpful in the diagnosis of this disease.
Since 1988, our institute has diagnosed and treated 180 cases of this type of patients, including 151 males, accounting for 83.9%, and 29 females, accounting for 16.1%. The oldest patient is 48 years old and the youngest is 3 years old. After half a year, the patients With the above treatment, 84.9% of patients achieved control, improvement, or significant improvement. Among them, 19.5% were effective, that is, after more than half a year of treatment, the patient's condition was significantly improved, and there was no significant difference in activity from ordinary people, and 15.1% were ineffective.
Typical case:
Li Jingwei, male, 4 years old, was admitted to Fuyang District Hospital in Anhui Province on October 8, 1991. The child struggled while walking a year ago, fell easily when walking, had difficulty going up and down stairs, and was easily fatigued compared to children of the same age. Feelings and intelligence are normal. The calf muscles of both lower limbs are thick and hard. CKP (serum creatine phosphokinase) 410u/L (normal value lt; 45u/L). I called on December 25, 1991. The child's falls had significantly reduced after taking the medicine. Another call came on April 7, 1992. The child no longer fell, could go up and down stairs by himself, and had gone to kindergarten. I called on November 9, 1992. I was walking better than before and could run. I called on September 25, 1993. His condition was better than before, and his parents were satisfied.
Liu Li, female, 16 years old, from Yijing Coal Mine Factory, Hexi District, Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province. First diagnosis on May 18, 1989. In the winter of 1988, the patient had difficulty standing up after squatting. He became tired when walking, which gradually worsened. It was very difficult to get on and off buses and cars. He sometimes fell while walking. His feeling and intelligence were normal, and the peroneal muscles of both lower limbs were hard and hypertrophic. Electromyography: Myogenic damage. I had a follow-up visit on July 22, 1989. After taking Jifuling for two months, my condition improved significantly and I had no difficulty standing up after squatting. In the winter of 1989, I could skate with my classmates. On December 9, 1991, the parents came for a consultation. The patient had gone to work and had no abnormalities compared with ordinary people.
2. Myasthenia gravis:
Myasthenia gravis is a chronic disease caused by neuro-muscle transmission dysfunction. Some people also believe that it is an autoimmune disease of the thymus. Due to thymosin It is caused by excessive secretion of acetylcholine at the end of nerve axons. There are two common clinical types of this disease, namely ocular muscle type and systemic type. ***Diagnosed and treated 115 cases of this type of disease, including 56 males and 59 females. There were 53 cases of ocular myasthenia type and 62 cases of systemic weakness type. The minimum age is 2 years old and the maximum age is 62 years old. Three months of treatment with Jifuling is one course of treatment. Most of the treatments achieve significant results or basic cure within one course of treatment. But there are also people who have been cured for more than a year. The eye muscle type effective rate reaches 98.3, and the cure rate reaches 95. Two cases are excerpted as follows:
Li Shu, female, 16 years old, a child of Taigu Traditional Chinese Medicine Factory in Shanxi Province. First consultation on July 27, 1989. The patient had ptosis of both eyelids since he was 2 years old, and the neostigmine test was positive. He was treated successively in Beijing and other places. Except for pyridine neostigmine, other Chinese and Western medicines were ineffective. After taking Jifuling for one month, the time of drooping of both eyelids was significantly shortened. When I came to see the doctor on September 27, 1989, both eyelids were completely back to normal. They have been to this day.
Wang Xin, female, 47 years old, is a physician at the Third Hospital of Harbin Medical University. On September 25, 1992, the case was sent to our institute for correspondence consultation and medication. The medical record records are as follows: he has been weak in his limbs for more than a year, and has had eyelid ptosis for more than seven months, accompanied by difficulty breathing, coughing when drinking water, and difficulty swallowing. He was urgently admitted to Harbin Medical University and the neostigmine test was positive. Diagnosed as severe systemic type with weakness. The treatment effect was not good, so he went to Peking Union Medical College Hospital for treatment. After three months of treatment with Chinese and Western medicine, the condition improved, and then he went to work intermittently, with symptoms sometimes mild and sometimes severe. In October 1992, I started taking Jifuling, a traditional Chinese medicine administered by our institute, and achieved obvious results. Here is an excerpt from the patient's letter dated October 26, 1993: "So far, no drug reaction has been found. I take it three times a day and now I swallow it." The symptoms of difficulty and choking and coughing have disappeared. My eyelids are still slightly droopy, and my general weakness has also been greatly reduced. I work eight hours a day. In the early days of my illness, I had to walk for 45 minutes and take 3-4 breaks. Western medicine has no specific effect on my disease. Apart from hormone treatment, it is also surgery, and the treatment effect is not satisfactory. I feel that Jifuling is very effective and has no side effects, so I am determined to continue taking it for a while."
3. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis:
Progressive amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a motor neuron disease. In the early stage, it mainly manifests as muscle atrophy and weakness of the limbs. In the late stage, it may be combined with the medulla oblongata. Paralysis causes dysarthria, dysphagia, and dyspnea. Neurological examination often shows active or hyperactive tendon reflexes. Electromyography often reports neurogenic damage, and TCM syndrome differentiation also falls into the scope of impotence. Our institute has diagnosed and treated 110 such patients, including 74 males and 36 females. The oldest is 69 years old and the youngest is 12 years old. The effective rate is 86.7.
Li Yunlian, female, 30 years old, from Zhimun, Dingxiang County, Shanxi Province, developed weakness in her limbs in 1981, accompanied by muscle atrophy of her upper limbs, which gradually worsened. In the spring of 1988, she developed difficulty speaking, hoarseness, and coughing when drinking water. , sometimes falling while walking. I was first diagnosed on October 10, 1988. I took Jifuling for 15 days and then stopped taking it. He came to the clinic again on April 23, 1992. The patient could no longer take care of himself, was emaciated, had dysarthria, choked when drinking water, and coughed. His tongue muscles and thenar muscles of his hands were obviously atrophied. He swayed when he walked and often fell. I started taking Jifuling treatment again. On July 9, 1992, the patient's spirit improved significantly, his speech was clearer than before, his coughing when drinking water disappeared, and he no longer fell when walking. On September 10, 1992, his mother came to complain that the patient could take care of himself, could speak basically clearly, had a rosy complexion, and had gained weight. His condition is now stable.
Zhang Zhihong, female, 15 years old, works at Linfen District Finance Bureau, Shanxi Province. First diagnosis on May 15, 1992.
The patient accidentally discovered that the left side of the tongue muscle was atrophic, without dysarthria or coughing. After examination at the Neurology Department of Shanyi Hospital No. 1, the tongue muscle tremor was obvious, and the thenar eminence of the left hand also showed mild atrophy. The patient was diagnosed with lateral sclerosis. On July 15, 1992, after taking the medicine for 40 days, the atrophic part of the tongue muscles began to thicken, and the tongue folds basically became flat. After another diagnosis on September 19, 1992, the tongue muscles basically recovered, and the thenar and thenar eminences also returned to normal. Tongue muscle tremor was significantly reduced. The patient was basically cured and is now in good health.
4. Progressive spinal muscular atrophy:
Progressive spinal muscular atrophy is also a motor neuron disease. Muscle atrophy can start on one side or both sides at the same time, starting from the distal end. Extending to the proximal end, accompanied by fasciculations, decreased muscle strength, decreased muscle tone, disappearance of tendon reflexes, and positive pyramidal tract sign. 125 cases of this disease were treated, including 94 males and 31 females, with an effective rate of 76. Two typical cases are listed below:
Lian Genghu, male, 21 years old, driver, Shuitou Village, Shuitou Township, Xia County, Shanxi Province. In March 1988, he developed numbness and soreness in his right arm. Later, it was discovered that the right deltoid muscle atrophied, and the movement of the right arm was limited. He could not drive. This gradually progressed to atrophy of the right forearm muscle, thenar muscle, and right interosseous muscle, and the muscle strength dropped to four. Grade, tendon reflexes were weakened, electromyography showed: neurogenic damage, and the First Hospital of Shanyi Hospital diagnosed progressive spinal muscular atrophy. After three months of Jifuling treatment, the muscle atrophy has not worsened, and the activity of the right arm has improved. After six months of treatment, the thenar muscles, deltoid muscles, and interosseous muscles were fuller than before. After one year of treatment, you can continue to drive, your muscles are full, and your muscle strength has basically returned to normal. After four years of follow-up, the condition has not recurred and she can continue her normal life and work.
Wang Xiaobin, male, 23 years old, technician, Taiyuan Plate Glass Factory. I went to the hospital on June 12, 1989, and found that my hand had fasciculations for one year, I could not draw normally, and I could not write. I also had obvious atrophy of the right forearm muscles, right interosseous muscles and thenar eminence muscles. My muscle strength was weakened to level four, and my tendons The reflexes were weakened, and the electromyogram showed: neurogenic damage, and the diagnosis was progressive spinal muscular atrophy. After three months of Jifuling treatment, he could hold a pen and write, but irregularly. After six months, his drawing and writing were basically normal, and his thenar and intermuscular muscles were obviously plump. After five years of follow-up, the patient's condition was stable and he could work normally.
5. Syringomyelia:
Syringomyelia is the formation of glial proliferation and elongated cavities inside the spinal cord, causing pain, loss of temperature sensation, or loss of temperature sensation in the damaged segment. Significant decline, accompanied by limb paralysis and nutritional disorders. In traditional Chinese medicine, it belongs to the categories of impotence and paralysis. Our institute diagnosed and treated 28 such patients, including 18 males and 10 females. The youngest was 18 years old and the oldest was 56 years old. The effective rate was 83.3 and the ineffective rate was 16.7. The excerpted cases are as follows:
Wang Zhongyi, male, 28 years old, from the Post and Telecommunications Bureau of Jinxi City, Liaoning Province. In 1985, he suffered from muscle atrophy of both upper limbs and hands, accompanied by burns on his hands and forearms. He was diagnosed with syringomyelia in eight major hospitals including Shenyang and Beijing. It was once considered an incurable disease in Beijing, and the family was in great pain. After treatment at our clinic in 1986, the temperature and pain sensations recovered significantly after 40 days. After three months, the sensation of temperature and pain basically recovered. The strength of his upper limbs was obviously strong. After eight months of treatment, his muscles have recovered significantly and are no different from normal activities. He has been working since then and has not seen any progression of the disease.
Zhao Xizhen, female, 56 years old, lives in a railway dormitory in Taiyuan City. First diagnosed on April 6, 1993. Both upper limbs have been cold for 6 years. The movement of the right upper limb has been inflexible for 2 months. The back muscles of the right hand have been atrophic for 2 months, accompanied by loss of temperature and pain sensation. The right hand has a claw-shaped hand, and the fingers cannot be straightened. Eat with chopsticks. The left upper limb had similar symptoms, but milder. After taking Jifuling treatment, on June 23, 1993, her temperature and pain sensation improved significantly, and she could stretch her fingers. On July 14, 1993, he was diagnosed again. He could use chopsticks with his right hand, and he could knead noodles and hold a knife to cut vegetables with his right hand. On August 2, 1993, the movements of both hands were more flexible than before, the grip strength of both hands was enhanced, and he could do housework. There was no obvious difference from the work done before the illness.
