When developing the 16V240ZJC diesel engine for Dongfeng 4C locomotives, there was no new supercharger available. The first two locomotives were still equipped with the original supercharger products developed by Dalian Diesel Locomotive Research Institute when they left the factory. However, The supercharger surged and leaked seriously. Therefore, starting from the third locomotive, it was equipped with the VTC254-13 supercharger patented by Swiss Blanc-Bauvelli AG (BBC), or its imitation ZN290 supercharger. The supercharger ratio was changed from the original Dongfeng The supercharger value of the Type 4B locomotive is increased from 2.3 to 3.35. The locomotive adopts AC-DC transmission. The diesel engine directly drives a TQFR-3000B three-phase AC synchronous traction generator. It uses a ZD109 (ZQDR-410C) four-pole series DC traction motor, which replaces the ZQDR-410 of the Dongfeng 4B locomotive.
