First, it really broadens your horizons. The horizons mentioned here are not the kind of horizons that "Grandma Liu entered the Grand View Garden". In fact, the prosperity of Hong Kong/Germany does not move me, it even makes me want to laugh. Instead, I met all kinds of people, different skin colors, and different races. I am more familiar with "human beings". I used to have some illusions about "crooked nuts", but now I don't. I saw different people, but encountered the same humanity, and I became more confident in the future of my motherland/world.
Second, after seeing different cultures/languages/cultures/life, I have become closer, firmer and more open-minded, and my heart has become more mature. When encountering things that are contrary to my understanding, I can analyze and handle them calmly. Not simply being swayed by ideology and emotions, but being able to analyze it from different angles.
This allows me to face this rapidly changing world more gently and firmly. I have always felt that inner change and cognitive change are the biggest changes. Studying abroad has really changed my heart. It’s not that “foreign countries” are better than “China”, but because “it’s different.” It’s hard for people to really change if their environment remains unchanged.
