Why is the service life of smooth steel wire rope short?

Smooth steel wire rope has no wear-resistant protective coating on its steel wire surface, and the only way to prevent wear is to apply grease. Therefore, when the grease is insufficient, it will wear quickly, and the debris will rust quickly. Wear will reduce the diameter of smooth steel wire rope, and wear will also induce fatigue and broken wire, which is the main reason for the short service life of smooth steel wire rope. Smooth steel wire rope belongs to obsolete products, and the more advanced manganese phosphating coated steel wire rope has been patented by many enterprises and mass produced. Manganese phosphating coated steel wire rope is twisted with manganese phosphating steel wire. The manganese phosphating film on the surface of steel wire is generally 15-30g/m2, which is a wear-resistant protective coating, and its wear-resistant protective effect is more than brushing oil on steel wire rope every day. The results of fatigue life measurement show that the fatigue life of manganese phosphating coated elevator wire rope is 3 ~ 5 times that of smooth elevator wire rope, and the heavier the manganese phosphating film on the steel wire surface, the longer the service life. However, the film weight of phosphating film cannot be increased indefinitely, and it is generally difficult to exceed 50g/m2. The unit cost of manganese phosphating coated steel wire rope is only about 30% of that of smooth steel wire rope, which is more cost-effective. Manganese phosphating coated steel wire rope is an upgraded product of smooth steel wire rope, which belongs to obsolete products.
