Professional Description:
Astronomy and astrophysics are concerned from beginning to end with the distribution of the properties of matter and radiation throughout the universe. Astronomy is based on physics, and students must master physics and mathematics in their freshman year. Students are passionate about the teaching and research programs and have regular access to some of the best facilities. The department has an astronomy program at Mount John that includes the search for planets beyond our solar system. We have professional cooperation with many institutions at home and abroad, such as being a member of a large telescope team in South Africa.

After graduation, students majoring in astronomy can engage in traditional jobs in the field of astronomy, such as scientists, technicians, research assistants, engineers, patent agents and managers, or work in Jobs in the computing, information technology, management or media industries.
