What is a patent pool?

Patent Pool is a collection of patents. At first, two or more patentees reached an agreement to license one or more patents to one party or a third party through this agreement, and later it developed into an intellectual property collection formed by putting multiple intellectual property rights (mainly patents) as cross-licensing objects into a package license. The original intention of patent pool is to speed up patent authorization and promote technology application.

Patent pool is translated into patent pool, and literal translation should be "patent pool", which means a collection of two or more patents. China scholars have many translations of this, such as patent pool, patent collection, patent swimming, patent alliance, patent joint authorization and so on.

Companies entering the patent pool can use all the patents in the pool to engage in research and commercial activities without seeking a separate license for each patent in the pool, and companies in the pool don't even have to pay the license fee to each other. Companies outside the "pool" can freely use all intellectual property rights in the "pool" through unified license.
