On September 12, 2009, the Agricultural Technology Extension Center of the Ministry of Agriculture of China and the Shanghai Agricultural Technology Extension Center held a demonstration meeting on the efficacy of phenazine-1- carboxylic acid in controlling rice sheath blight in Shanghai. Experts from major rice producing areas in China 16 provinces and cities observed Fengxian Experimental Base of Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Jing Yao Village Demonstration Experimental Site of Maogang Town, Songjiang District on the spot, and exchanged and discussed the experimental results of phenazine-1- carboxylic acid drugs against rice sheath blight organized by the Ministry of Agriculture for two consecutive years.
At the meeting, Professor Xu Yuquan of Shanghai Jiaotong University gave a special report on the creation and application of microbial fungicide phenazine-1- carboxylic acid in the past five years. Mr. Feng Zhentai, general manager of Shanghai Nongle Biological Products Co., Ltd. also reported the industrialization process of phenazine-1- carboxylic acid technical achievements to leading experts from various provinces and cities at the meeting; Dr. Zhang Sui from Fengxian Experimental Base Research Institute of Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Shanghai Agriculture and Extension Center and plant protection experts from 9 provinces and cities in China reported and exchanged the results of demonstration and extension experiments in recent two years.
Director Shao Zhenrun of the Agricultural Technology Extension Center of the Ministry of Agriculture made a special summary, praised the biological pesticide phenazine-1- carboxylic acid produced by Shanghai Nongle Company, spoke highly of the results of this research work, and gave the fact that phenazine-1- carboxylic acid is an independent and innovative green pesticide that has not been seen in China for decades, with huge market potential and will make great contributions to the safe production of rice, a grain crop in China. At the same time, Director Shao also called for the rapid transformation of scientific research achievements into productive forces and the realization of large-scale industrial production. This development will become a new bio-industry in China! Rice sheath blight is the biggest disease of rice, the main grain crop in China, with an annual incidence area of 250 million mu. Controlling rice sheath blight has become an important key measure to ensure the safety of grain production in China. Phenazine-1- carboxylic acid is an innovative microbial pesticide with independent intellectual property rights, and its industrialization will play an important role in the control of rice sheath blight.
Phenazine-1- carboxylic acid is a new biological pesticide jointly developed by School of Life Sciences of Shanghai Jiaotong University and Shanghai Nongle Company. This product has obtained two invention patents, won the first prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award, and was included in the tenth five-year plan of the country. Nongle Company said: "In the future development, Nongle will continue to develop and produce biological pesticides with independent intellectual property rights, high-efficiency, low-toxicity and environmentally-friendly pesticides and new formulations, which will contribute to the national food production safety and play a positive role in promoting the sustainable development of agriculture."
