Why doesn't BMW adopt stepless speed change?

Generally speaking, there are three reasons:

One: the patent issue

Two: technical barriers

Three: research and development direction

The first is the patent issue. Both Volkswagen's DSG technology and Nissan's continuously variable transmission system have their own patents and cannot be sold. Doesn't mean you can pretend if you want, and the first family won't sell it. Secondly, the transfer fee is also high. Secondly, technology is a big aspect, and different enterprises have their own business technology secrets. DSG technology is simple in principle, but the actual manufacturing is another problem, processing technology and cost.

Up to now, many of our domestic cars have to buy Aisin's manual five-speed gearbox. Finally: R&D direction. For gearbox, reducing fuel consumption and increasing power transmission is the general direction. But every family goes a different way.

BMW's all-electronic transmission, now composed of 5 series and 7 series, achieves the desired effect by electronically simulating gears, or Mercedes-Benz's 8-speed cyclic transmission and Toyota's widely used 6-speed virtual automatic manual transmission. , are all different.

For an enterprise, the research and development direction is basically fixed, and it is also a supplement to the enterprise tradition and engine technology. For example, Toyota does not pursue technologies such as turbocharging. Because of the limitation of the island country, power is not the main research direction, economy, energy conservation and environmental protection are the main research direction, and the main research direction is oil-electric or pure electric hybrid power. Therefore, DSG dual clutch is meaningless to them.

Like the United States, a road is running, and the displacement of 4.0 and 5.5 can't move. The advantages of DSG transmission are basically offset. So the development direction is another direction, just like in the United States, Volkswagen's cars are all 3.2. The above is just an example. A transmission can't be seen alone, it depends on the engine technology and main research and development direction of this company. Is the most suitable.
