"China's dependence on foreign oil imports is nearly 70%. In the long run, it is very necessary to develop hydrogen-fueled vehicles from the perspectives of national energy security, social development and air quality improvement. Although the development of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles is valuable, it will not be so fast. "
On May 30th, Wei Jianjun, Chairman of Great Wall Motor, said in an interview with relevant media that although the development of hydrogen-fueled vehicles is of great significance, it is still difficult to realize commercialization.
Because hydrogen fuel cannot be obtained directly from nature, it needs to be manufactured artificially. The commonly used hydrogen production methods include catalytic hydrogen production from fossil fuels, industrial by-products, biological hydrogen production and solar energy hydrogen production, but the effect is not ideal, the equipment is complex and the investment is large. Of course, hydrogen can also be obtained by electrolyzing water, but the energy consumption is high. There is no optimal scheme for industrial hydrogen production, which still needs to be developed.
"Although China's current oil, steel and other industries are large in scale, the proportion of by-product hydrogen in these industries is very small. In a hydrogen energy society, these yields are far from enough. " Wei Jianjun believes that the biggest factor restricting the development of hydrogen fuel vehicles at present lies in the imperfection of the industrial chain. The whole process of hydrogen production, hydrogen transportation, hydrogen storage and hydrogenation takes time to build a complete industrial chain.
In Wei Jianjun's view, the recent boom in hydrogen-fueled vehicles should be treated more rationally. It takes patience to develop hydrogen fuel industry. "Great Wall Motor doesn't have a hydrogen fuel cell now. With the power of hydrogen fuel, we can do this industry. The development of industrial chain is a long-term process. The industrial chain construction of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles is more difficult than that of electric vehicles. The industrial chain of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles needs to be cultivated, and the maturity of technology is still a long way from commercialization. " Wei Jianjun believes that because the cost of developing hydrogen fuel is difficult to control, the large-scale application of hydrogen fuel vehicles is more suitable for commercial vehicles, such as trucks, buses and buses operating in cities, so that the cost can be effectively reduced through batch operation.
In Wei Jianjun's view, hydrogen fuel technology is not suitable for small passenger cars, and hydrogen fuel technology will be applied to the development of large passenger cars in the future. Great Wall Motor's hydrogen-fueled SUV model will be applied during the 2022 Winter Olympics.
On May 30th, Great Wall Motor opened the Hydrogen Energy Technology Center to the media for the first time. In the future, Great Wall Motor will promote the continuous improvement of the industrial chain and reduce costs through an open supply system. Therefore, Great Wall Motor not only manufactures hydrogen fuel vehicles in the research and development of hydrogen fuel vehicle technology, but also builds a professional hydrogen fuel power system and becomes a supplier of hydrogen fuel power systems. It is understood that Great Wall Motor has taken the lead in building the largest comprehensive test center for key components of hydrogen energy and fuel cell vehicles in China, including the first domestic 105MPa high-pressure hydrogen cycle test bench, the first domestic 6-axis hydrogen storage bottle winding machine, the first domestic fuel cell power system test bench and the first domestic liquid hydrogen storage and hydrogenation station. , with the ability to test and trial-produce the core components of fuel cell vehicles and the ability to integrate and test the whole vehicle.
In addition, Great Wall Motor is the first China automobile enterprise to join the International Hydrogen Council, and has established a world-class research and development team for hydrogen energy, fuel cell system and vehicle technology. The expert team is composed of industry elites from Germany, Britain, South Korea, Japan, the United States and China, and most of them have more than ten years' working experience in the fields of fuel cell, hydrogen storage, hydrogenation, hydrogen production, hydrogen transportation technology and vehicle integration.
