In the 1970s, in order to solve the bottleneck problem that restricted the increase in freshwater aquaculture production in my country, the Institute of Fishery Machinery took the lead in developing and inventing the "impeller aerator", thus laying the equipment and technology foundation for the development of my country's aquaculture industry into "high-yield intensive cultivation". . Over the past 50 years, scientific researchers in this professional field have innovatively developed a series of advanced aquaculture equipment such as impeller aerators, hydraulic pond dredging units, factory-based aquatic seed breeding systems, and industrialized circulating aquaculture systems, and have continuously promoted the development of aquaculture equipment. Technological progress and development.

This professional field takes the sustainable development of breeding as its primary goal, focusing on research on breeding water purification mechanisms, water treatment technology and key equipment, and construction of industrial breeding models, and has presided over a number of national, provincial and ministerial level research projects. Scientific research projects, the key technologies and equipment for aquaculture water treatment such as microfiltration machines and automated water quality monitoring systems developed have been awarded more than 20 national invention patents, providing strong scientific and technological support for the sustainable development of my country's aquaculture industry.

Pond ecological engineering is a professional field established in the early 21st century. It is integrated from research on aquaculture ecological engineering, fishery digitalization, and aquaculture mechanization. Mainly engaged in theoretical and technical research on aquaculture environment and ecological engineering, aquaculture facilities, fishery digitalization and aquaculture mechanization, etc., relying on the construction of the "Pond Ecological Engineering Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Fisheries Sciences" and the "Pond Aquaculture Engineering and Facilities of the Chinese Academy of Fisheries Sciences" Functional Laboratory”. Since 2005, this professional field has presided over various projects such as the National Science and Technology Support Plan, the Shanghai Municipal Agricultural Committee’s key projects for promoting agriculture through science and technology, the 863 Plan, the national bulk freshwater fish industry technology system, and the national public welfare industry (agriculture) science and technology special projects20 Remainder.

This professional field focuses on research on aquaculture environmental science and ecological engineering technology, aquaculture facilities and standardization technology, fishery digital technology and systems, aquaculture mechanization technology and equipment systems, etc., and established the first domestic pond aquaculture Digital management system and ecologically engineered breeding community model, and took the lead in carrying out renovation of old ponds and upgrading of breeding models nationwide.

The field of marine fishery engineering combines the two traditional advantages of the Institute of Fishery Machinery: fishery instruments and fishing vessel deck machinery.

It has carried out research and design on standardized ship types for the renewal and reconstruction of fishing boats in Shanghai and Jiangsu Province, and cooperated with CNR to develop my country's first electric propulsion 36.5 m fishing boat. In 2012, the updated SH821 standard fishing boat model was rated as one of the “Top Ten Excellent Standardized Ship Models in the Country”.
