What is the Civil Code?

Civil code refers to the code used to adjust the judicial relationship between equal subjects in countries that adopt written laws. The Civil Code regulates all kinds of legal acts and identity acts through clauses and abstract rules. Some civil codes will take customary law as a way to supplement norms, and most of them also stipulate judicial autonomy between the parties to make up for the shortcomings of various laws and regulations.

On May 28th, 2020, the Third Session of the 13th National People's Congress voted to pass the Civil Code of People's Republic of China (PRC). This law will take effect on 202 1 1 1.

The Draft Civil Code of China (Proposal Draft) was drafted by the Legislative Group of Civil Code of China Academy of Social Sciences.
