What is the examination procedure for applying for Russian patent?

The Russian Patent Office conducts formal examination and substantive examination of the application documents. The formal examination shall be conducted after the Russian translation of the application documents is submitted to the Russian Patent Office. For formally accepted applications, the request for substantive examination must be made within 3 years from the date of application (international application date). It is expected that the first notice of review opinions will be received within one year after the actual review request is made. The reply to the notice of review opinions must be submitted within two months. The recovery period can be extended month by month for a total of 10 months. The application will be published 18 months after the national application date.
