Lai Shen's character evaluation

Lai Shen, who was introduced by the "Hundred Talents Program" in 2004, led the team to identify functional molecules from traditional Chinese medicine, reveal the material basis for exerting their efficacy, establish a natural drug active protein/polypeptide molecular resource library, and develop innovative drugs.

Since 2005, the following outstanding achievements have been made:

1) discovered the largest number of antimicrobial peptides (more than 500 kinds) in the world, and was invited to participate in three international works;

2) A new antioxidant system composed of peptides was discovered for the first time, which is called "the third antioxidant system";

3) It is found that lectin with the smallest molecular weight is an excellent drug targeted delivery molecule;

4) The neurotoxicity encoded by the gene was first discovered in amphibians.

* * * Published 63 SCI papers, including 56 corresponding authors; Apply for 40 invention patents and authorize 20; The antimicrobial peptide Cathelicidin-BF was selected as the research hotspot of natural China in 2008. Antimicrobial peptides and antithrombotic peptides are being industrialized, and patent transfer agreements have been signed; Won the first prize of provincial natural science (2008) and the second prize (2009), each item 1 (ranked first). The 15 graduate student I supervised won the excellent scholarship award of the president of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and I won the pollyanna chu excellent teacher award. In 2009, the "Hundred Talents Program" was finally rated as excellent.

Acceptance speech:

"Five years back home, youthful. On the road of exploring bio-molecular resources and innovating new drug research and development, he tirelessly climbed and struggled with his rigor, diligence and responsibility to society, contributed his youth and wisdom to scientific progress and human health, and tried to interpret the persistence and pursuit of a young scientist-Lai Wei of Kunming Institute of Zoology.
