What will mobile phone charging look like in the future?

OPPO gave the answer at 202 1 MWC (world mobile communication conference) Shanghai exhibition.

On February 23rd, OPPO released the X202 1 reel concept machine, which can realize charging at the farthest distance of 7.5 watts.

Moreover, the technology of long-distance charging is not affected by angles and movements, and it can be charged while playing.

This wireless charging scheme named "Ruimagnetic" is jointly developed by OPPO and Chengdu Sipuding Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Sipuding"), which can realize charging at a distance of more than ten centimeters.

This is the world's first mobile phone wireless charging technology scheme with mass production possibility and meeting international and domestic safety standards, which indicates that air charging has entered human life and is no longer just a concept.

Odin said that the appearance of this technology in MWC indicates that the "magnetic core" wireless charging scheme has entered the mass production stage.

In fact, as a new technology, wireless air charging has attracted major mobile phone manufacturers in recent two years. So, what is the current "color" of this technology?

How fragrant is wireless charging from a distance?

The layout of Xiaomi, Motorola, Huawei and other smartphone manufacturers "you chase after me" is enough to explain the problem.

At the end of last month, Xiaomi and Motorola officially announced the launch of "air charging" technology on the same day.

65438+1On October 29th, Lei Jun, founder of Xiaomi Group, said in the Weibo that the technical core of Xiaomi's long-distance charging lies in spatial positioning and long-distance energy transmission. The self-developed space separation charging pile has five phase interference antennas, which can locate the mobile phone in millisecond space and accurately detect the position of the mobile phone. The phased array composed of 144 antenna emits millimeter waves directionally to the mobile phone through beamforming.

According to Xiaomi, its remote charging technology realizes the remote charging of 5 watts for a single device within a radius of several meters. Moreover, multiple devices can be charged at the same time (each device supports 5 watts), even if there are foreign objects, the charging efficiency will not be reduced.

In the words of Lei Jun, it is: "Maybe once you enter the house, you don't need any charging cable and charging base. Whether you put your mobile phone in your pocket or hold it in your hand, you can realize remote automatic charging. This scene that only exists in science fiction movies has become a reality. "

On the same day, Motorola official Weibo forwarded a short video showing the charging technology from a distance.

In this video, it is said that the company's air charging distance can be much longer than the current contact charging based on Qi technology, and it can charge multiple mobile phones at the same time, with higher freedom and safety performance, which is a real wireless charging.

Earlier, there were signs that Huawei also laid out the technology.

In September 2020, according to media reports, Huawei applied for a new patent to realize real wireless charging of mobile phones through lasers, which is expected to be applied to smart phones in the next two or three generations.

According to the report, Huawei pointed out that this technology can also be used for medium and long-distance charging from smartphones to laptops, tablets and even drones.

Why do mobile phone manufacturers pursue wireless charging tirelessly?

According to IHS, a third-party market organization, by 2022, the global wireless charging market will be close to 200 billion RMB. In 20 15 years, the global wireless charging market scale is less than138 billion RMB, and the market potential is huge.

"With the blessing of 5G, Internet of Things, intelligent manufacturing and new energy applications, the penetration rate of wireless charging technology can be rapidly improved." Ouyang Hanqing, deputy general manager of SPP Odin Technology, said.

In addition to self-research, domestic mobile phone manufacturers are also seeking cooperation with companies that can provide wireless charging technology solutions from a distance, such as Spock Odin.

Founded on 20 15, Spordin is a supplier focusing on the long-distance wireless power transmission technology and related system solutions in the Central Plains.

As a member of AirFuel wireless power supply consortium, Spool Odin Company has introduced a new generation of magnetic * * vibration wireless charging power supply technology-"Rich Charge" technology under the framework of high-frequency magnetic * * vibration coupling technology.

At present, there are two camps of wireless charging technology in the world, WPC and AirFuel. The former takes magnetic induction (low-frequency technology) as the core, and the latter produces * * * vibration coupling through two windings with the same resonance frequency, realizing all-round power transmission in space, that is, magnetic * * vibration.

In recent years, the products circulating in the market, such as "mobile phone wireless charger", are mostly QI technology in WPC alliance, which is characterized by low research and development threshold, mature technology and low cost. However, users charge slowly when using, so they can't charge wirelessly at a long distance, and only support one-to-one device charging. In most application scenarios, the advantages of this technology are not obvious.

Compared with QI, AirFuel magnetic vibration technology has the characteristics of high efficiency, long distance and multi-equipment support. However, due to the difficulty of research and development and high cost, it has not been popularized, and the number of enterprises using this technology is far from equal.

"The' core magnetic' used by OPPO belongs to the AirFuel magnetic * * * vibration technology. By adopting adaptive matching, dynamic power distribution and magnetic field multi-input multi-output technology, one-to-many wireless charging in three-dimensional space can be realized, and the energy transmission efficiency of the system can reach up to 75%. " Ouyang Qingyi said.

From the application point of view, long-distance wireless charging can be applied to a variety of application scenarios, including consumer electronics, industrial intelligent manufacturing and other directions.

At present, SPH Odin is deeply involved in consumer electronics and industrial equipment, and its target markets include industrial manufacturing, smart home, smart wear, intelligent transportation and medical equipment. , and formed a lot of related technical solutions and mass production shipment.

In Ouyang Qingyi's view, the wireless charging scene in industrial manufacturing may be the real demand. For example, in the most important safety site, the tower crane visualization equipment is wirelessly charged, which has changed the scene of manually climbing the tower crane to replace the battery of the monitoring equipment in the past. At the same time, because long-distance wireless charging is a non-contact charging method, there will be no hidden trouble of wire failure and short circuit, which greatly reduces the incidence of safety accidents.

"As a pioneer in the wireless charging industry, Spock Odin is trying to explore more application scenarios of wireless charging. I hope that in the future, wireless charging can be built into a wireless ecosystem in the fields of eating, drinking, wearing, using, traveling and living, and our life can really enter the' wireless era'." Ouyang Qingyi said.

Although it is a "megatrend" for smartphone manufacturers such as Xiaomi, can this technology achieve "real fragrance" as expected?

The senior investment manager of Chengdu New Economic Development Research Institute Co., Ltd. once thought that the penetration rate was less than expected, the vast number of users had not yet formed consumption habits, and the technical pain points still needed to be broken.

Xiaomi and Motorola have not given clear data on specific issues such as energy conversion rate, charging efficiency, millimeter wave frequency band used and whether there is radiation, so all parties have different opinions.

At present, there are still many problems to be solved to realize the real practicality of space charging technology.

The first is the issue of safety regulations and standards. /kloc-In February, 2009, official website, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued the Interim Provisions on Radio Management of Wireless Charging (Power Transmission) Equipment (Draft for Comment). According to the exposure draft, the rated transmission power of all mobile and portable wireless charging equipment produced, imported, sold and used in China shall not exceed 50W from June 5438+1 October1day, 2022. And formally stipulated the working frequency of wireless charging of mobile devices.

There is also the question of cost. "The cost of wireless charging at the transmitter is 30%-50% more expensive than the existing wireless charging, and the cost at the receiver is similar. However, the pricing ultimately reflected in the terminal products still depends on the planning of mobile phone manufacturers. " Ouyang Qingyi said.

The commercialization of technology is also a challenge.

In addition, from the perspective of industrial chain ecology, the industrial chain ecology of long-distance wireless charging technology needs to be improved. "Because before this, there was more industrial support related to K-Hz, naturally there were fewer megahertz and fewer suppliers." Ouyang Hanqing said that the industrial chain can be related and will gradually achieve some breakthroughs.

If the evolution of mobile phone charging mode is divided, it can be roughly divided into: wired charging 1.0 stage, wireless charging 2.0 stage and long-distance charging 3.0 stage.

In Ouyang Han Qing's view, the current stage is still in the transition stage from 2.0 to 3.0. "This transition period may last for some time, after all, it has just begun. But in the end, it is an irreversible trend to completely turn to wireless in the air. "
