The school was jointly established by Jiangsu Provincial People's Government, Ministry of Education and China Meteorological Bureau, and also by Jiangsu Provincial People's Government and State Oceanic Administration. It has a complete bachelor's, master's and doctoral education and training system, and has a postdoctoral research mobile station. The discipline of atmospheric science ranks first in the country in the first-level discipline evaluation of the Ministry of Education and has great influence in the world. The school has several national key disciplines, provincial and ministerial key disciplines, national specialty and brand specialty and Jiangsu specialty. The 55 undergraduate majors cover eight disciplines: science, engineering, management, literature, economics, law, agriculture and art, and the master's majors basically cover undergraduate majors.
