The open source operating system is

Linux operating system is a computer operating system. The kernel name of the Linux operating system is also "Linux". Linux operating system is also the most famous example in the development of free software and open source.

Strictly speaking, the word Linux itself only means Linux kernel, but in fact, people have become accustomed to using Linux to describe the whole operating system (also known as GNU/Linux) based on Linux kernel and equipped with various human-computer interfaces, applications and service software. Linux software based on these components is called Linux distribution. Generally speaking, a Linux distribution suite contains a lot of software, such as software development tools, databases, Web servers (such as Apache), X Window, desktop environments (such as GNOME and KDE), office suites (such as OpenOffice.org) and so on.

Linux kernel was originally designed for Intel 386 microprocessor. Now Linux kernel supports all kinds of hardware devices, from personal computers to mainframes and even embedded systems.

At first, Linux was just a product of personal passion. But now, Linux has become a widely concerned and supported operating system. Some computer giants, including IBM and HP, also began to support Linux. Many people think that Linux, as a free software, has the advantages of low cost, high security and more reliability compared with other commercial Unix systems and Microsoft Windows.

An operating system is a collection of system software that controls the operation of other programs, manages system resources and provides an operating interface for users.
