Generation of airbag
The airbag originated from an automobile accident. 1952 an American engineer named John W. Hetrick took his wife and young daughter on an outing at the weekend. Because a big obstacle suddenly appeared in the middle of the road, John stepped on the brake and slammed the steering wheel. The car lost control and turned into a ditch on the side of the road. The wife in the passenger seat put her arm in front of her daughter's head and held her daughter in her arms. When the family was rescued by rescuers, John found his daughter unscathed under the protection of his wife. Thus, John was inspired to find a device to replace his wife's arm. Finally, in the following year, the "automobile buffer safety device" designed by John was patented, but it was not applied to automobiles due to the limitation of technical level at that time.
Location of common airbags
Airbags are familiar to everyone, but do you know the location of airbags? At present, there are several kinds of airbags most equipped on the automobile in the market, including the main and co-pilot airbags, the front side airbags and the front and rear airbags. Next, I will introduce them to you one by one.
Airbag a is the main driver's seat airbag. It is the earliest airbag in the car and the most basic airbag in the car. Mainly used to protect the driver's head and chest. Generally installed on the steering wheel. See the picture below, where the red triangle marks.
B airbag is the co-pilot airbag, which is generally installed in the platform directly in front of the co-pilot. It can protect the head and chest of the co-pilot passenger when an accident occurs, and prevent the co-pilot passenger from directly contacting the interior trim panel, thus achieving the purpose of reducing passenger injuries.
C airbags are front side airbags, one on the left and right of the front row, which are generally arranged on the side of the front seat near the door. The purpose is to slow down the damage caused by side impact, isolate the direct collision between the car body and the door, and effectively protect the safety of the front drivers and passengers.
D airbags are front and rear head airbags, also called side air curtains. They are usually equipped at the same time, one on the left and right sides of the vehicle, which will pop up in case of an accident to prevent the passenger's head from directly colliding with the left and right horizontal hard objects and protect the passenger's head and neck.
Comparison of mainstream A-class cars
Joint-venture brand: select several models with better sales volume among various car series in the market for comparison, and choose 20 19 sedan Volkswagen LaVida, one * * * seven-seat model; Choose 2020 Nissan Sylphy and * * * six models; Choose 202 1 Buick Hideo and one * * *.
Independent brand: choose 20 19 leading Geely Emgrand and one * * * six models; Choose 20 19 Chery ariza GX, one * * * ten models; Choose 2020 Changan Yidong, one * * * five.
Comparing six A-class cars, it can be found that the entry-level models are generally equipped with only the main and co-pilot airbags, and only the high-equipped or highest-equipped models will be equipped with six airbags. Disappointingly, independent brands have always been known for their rich configurations and high cost performance. Therefore, the configuration of the airbag is not satisfactory. Although it may still be because of the low price of the whole vehicle, the cost needs to be considered, but the safety configuration should be put in the first place, and some second important configurations can be considered to be replaced by safety configurations.
Write to the end
As an important part of automobile passive safety, airbag plays a more important role in automobile safety. In addition, with the increasing awareness of people's safety, it is very likely that in the near future, the standard six airbags for best-selling models will be a basic configuration.
