What is the difference between the object protected by the invention and the utility model patent?

Inventions can protect methods and products, while utility models can only protect products with shapes and structures. In other words, methods and products without shape and structure (such as traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions) can only apply for invention patents, while products with shape and structure can apply for invention patents and utility model patents.
