Yan Jing is from Huai'an, Jiangsu, China. After graduating with excellent academic results, she went to the UK to continue her studies. In 2014, she officially obtained a doctorate in biomedicine from the University of Cambridge.
She is passionate and eloquent in entrepreneurship competitions, serious and focused in the laboratory, and fresh and simple in life. Yan Jing? She has a PhD in biomedicine from the University of Cambridge in the UK. After graduation, she did not naturally choose a comfortable research job. Gathering a few like-minded friends, we embarked on a challenging entrepreneurial journey.
Sweeping the Entrepreneurship Competition
The first time I met Yan Jing was at the 2015 British Global Elite Cup Entrepreneurship and Investment Competition held in April this year. At that time, Yan Jing’s entry project was Yan Jing's explanation of microfluidic technology conquered all the judges present, and she came out on top without any doubt.
Microfluidic technology sounds high-end and unfamiliar, but it becomes easy to understand through Yan Jing’s explanation. Yan Jing said that her doctoral research direction is mainly based on three technologies of microfluidic microchips. Microfluidic technology mainly shrinks ordinary scientific experiments into microdroplets, which can reduce experimental costs, reduce experimental repeatability, and improve accuracy.
Based on this platform, the first technology Yan Jing researched was ultra-high-speed micro-droplet production technology. The micro-droplet production speed is 10 to 100 times that of ordinary technology, thus achieving the purpose of increasing speed and reducing costs.
On this basis, the second technology is to use time-correlated single photon counting technology to measure and analyze polymeric peptides wrapped in microdroplets. This technology is mainly used for early diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases. In early 2014, an international patent was applied for in Cambridge.
The third technology is the newly developed antibacterial microcapsule technology. Yan Jing's team discovered that an extract from an herbal plant has strong antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. After high-speed micro-droplet wrapping, it can be widely used in the production of medicines, daily chemical products, skin care products, pesticides and other products. It has small dosage and long-lasting effect.
Yan Jing said: "High-speed microdroplet production technology and antibacterial microcapsule technology are the first step to promote our business, and the second step will be to promote early diagnosis technology for neurodegenerative diseases." In addition, in the future, we will continue to develop new technologies based on social needs. ?
Transformation of a top student
On a weekend in early summer in May, I made an appointment with Yan Jing to travel from London to Cambridge to visit her laboratory and meet with her team. The Yan Jing in front of her looks like a girl next door with light makeup and plain clothes. It is hard to imagine that it is this academic master who leads his entrepreneurial team to challenge the highest technology in biomedicine.
Yan Jing is from Huai'an, Jiangsu, China. After graduating with excellent academic results, she went to the UK to continue her studies. In 2014, she officially obtained a doctorate in biomedicine from the University of Cambridge.
Currently a pharmaceutical consultant at Bain & Company, a British private equity consulting firm. Yan Jing once worked for the Influenza Prevention Department of the United Nations World Health Organization. At the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics, she and Sir Ian McKellen*** performed on the stage together in Newton's Gravity program. During his PhD, he published two international scientific documents and a leading international patent for early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease.
Although Yan Jing has been a top academic figure all the way, and it is natural to continue research work after graduation, Yan Jing chose to enter a well-known consulting company in the industry, and at the same time, she and her friends during the Ph.D. They established their own company together and started their entrepreneurial journey. Yan Jing said: "I obtained so many research results and patents during my studies. I especially hope that these scientific research results can be transformed into products and put into application in my own hands." Self-employment is a way to quickly transform these achievements into productivity. ?
Full dedication
With her multiple patent achievements, Yan Jing went to the United Nations World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland, for an internship in May 2012, and participated in the 65th World Health Organization that year. At the health conference, Yan Jing learned about China’s huge domestic demand for biomedicine.
Since then, Yan Jing has been actively paying attention to China’s biomedical high-tech market. In April 2014, Yan Jing and her team returned to Suzhou to evaluate leading scientific and technological talents, and settled the biomedical technology company she founded in Suzhou. Zhangjiagang. From then on, Yan Jing positioned her career between Cambridge and Jiangsu.
Yan Jing said: In the future, our team will settle part of the R&D and technological production work in Jiangsu to strive for rapid advancement of subsequent technology research and development so that the products can be put into the market as soon as possible. ?
Speaking of the smooth progress of her projects and products in the start-up stage, Yan Jing believes that it is closely related to the school’s good entrepreneurial environment: Cambridge not only brings together many of the world’s top scientific research teams and scientific and technological achievements, the school also We pay special attention to cultivating students' entrepreneurial spirit and create several excellent entrepreneurial environments for students who choose to start their own businesses. I have benefited a lot from various entrepreneurial guidance and lectures. ?
At present, the team has received 2 million yuan in start-up financial support from China, and many angel funds have extended an olive branch to Yan Jing, but Yan Jing herself and her friends are actively looking for suitable angels. Investors join the project and strive to put their products into production as soon as possible.
In the process of actively starting a business, Yan Jing also gained sweet love. She and her husband met in the laboratory when they were students. The same career and interests brought the two people together quickly. . Now, it is logical that the husband who works in finance has joined Yan Jing's start-up company and is responsible for the financial work. The young couple are working together on the new products of their team.
