From scratch, from weak to strong, a brief history of the development of Chinese military vehicles

From August 1, 1927, the Nanchang Uprising fired the first shot of armed resistance against the Kuomintang reactionaries. Today, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army has a history of 93 years. Over the course of nearly a century of history, the Chinese People's Liberation Army has continued to grow. The heroic Chinese People's Liberation Army has guarded the security of the motherland, and our country's influence in the military field has also continued to expand. With the rapid development of our country's economy, the weapons and equipment of the People's Liberation Army are constantly being upgraded, such as military vehicles, which have also undergone earth-shaking changes. Today, I will take you to review the development history of our country’s military vehicles.

The first stage: starting from scratch

In terms of vehicle design and manufacturing methods, we generally divide military vehicles into two categories, namely mass-produced civilian vehicles, and then Models modified according to special military purposes, such as military transport vehicles, military light off-road vehicles, etc. The other type is special vehicles designed and manufactured entirely for military needs, such as armored vehicles. In the early days, because my country's automobile industry started late and independent research and development technology was weak, we basically did not have military vehicles. The most advanced transportation tools were handcarts, horses, donkeys, etc., and we could only rely on capturing military vehicles from the enemy.

By the end of 1937, our army owned more than a dozen vehicles through gifts from friends at home and abroad and self-purchase, and established our army's first automobile transport team. For more than ten years, my country's military vehicles mainly relied on imports. Since 1951, the country has imported more than 10,000 military vehicles for the army every year. By the end of 1957, the total number of automobile equipment in the army had reached more than 92,000 vehicles, of which more than 70 % of the vehicles come from the Soviet Union.

The second stage: from import to independent production

It was not until July 13, 1956, that the Changchun First Automobile Manufacturing Plant was completed and put into operation, which ended our country's inability to independently produce cars. history. In 1957, FAW trial-produced the 2.5t class 6×6 CA30 off-road vehicle and put it into small batch production, becoming the first military vehicle equipped by the Chinese People's Liberation Army.

If in the early days, it was through imitation of imported models, then in 1964, the military command light off-road model BJ-212 developed by the Beijing Manufacturing Plant was a military vehicle independently developed by our country. This classic model has not been discontinued to this day, but it is no longer in service with the army.

The third stage: from weak to strong

After entering the 21st century, our country has always adhered to independent innovation in the development of military vehicles and established our own military vehicle system. For example, FAW, as the "eldest son" of the People's Republic of China, has successively developed products such as the second-generation military vehicle CA1121J five-ton military transport vehicle and the CA1171J ten-ton military transport vehicle starting from its first military vehicle, the Jiefang CA30. , obtain bulk orders for the army. In 2004, CA1121J, CA1093K2 and other models achieved technological upgrades, and completed the development of CA1122J and other models, and related products were equipped in batches for the troops. In 2006, Dongfeng took four and a half years to complete the 1.5t-class high-mobility military off-road vehicle - Dongfeng Warrior. It has 100% independent intellectual property rights and 84 technology patents, and has been installed in the army in batches since 2007. In addition, a series of new domestic advanced military off-road vehicles such as BAIC Warrior and Xiaolong Automobile also have performance comparable to the world's first-class military off-road vehicles, and also well demonstrate the spirit of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.

Of course, in addition to these regular customers of military vehicles, there are also some new faces in current military vehicles. For example, the T60, a pickup truck model owned by SAIC MAXUS, has frequently won heavyweight orders from the military.

The G10, its MPV model, was also used as a command support vehicle for the military parade celebrating the 90th anniversary of the founding of the People's Liberation Army. It participated in the grand military parade held by the Chinese People's Liberation Army, showing the style of Chinese brand cars.

Our country’s military vehicles have experienced nearly a century of development, from scratch to something, from weak to strong. Looking back at the history of the development of military vehicles, it is also a history of continuous improvement in the country’s comprehensive strength. Peaceful years are hard-won. Let us pay tribute to all the Chinese People's Liberation Army and military vehicle research and development teams who have contributed to peaceful development!
