Introduction to Zhang Yaqin

Zhang Yaqin joined Baidu in September 2014 as president. Before joining Baidu, Zhang Yaqin served as global senior vice president of Microsoft Corporation and chairman of Microsoft Asia Pacific R&D Group. He was one of the founders of Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA). He served as president and chief scientist of Microsoft Research Asia, global vice president of Microsoft, Chairman of Microsoft China. He founded Microsoft Asia Engineering Academy (ATC) in 2003. In 2004, he was promoted to global vice president of Microsoft Corporation. In 2006, he founded Microsoft Asia Pacific R&D Group. Before joining Microsoft, he worked at Sarnoff Company in the United States and was responsible for the research and development of digital imaging and multimedia information systems. Before joining Sarnoff, he worked as a senior researcher at GTE Laboratory in the United States. In 1997, he was awarded the title of Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (IEEE Fellow), becoming the youngest scientist to receive this honor in the 100-year history of the association. He holds more than 60 U.S. patents, more than 500 academic papers and 11 monographs.
