The model of Savage 1 10 comes from its initial retail price of 109.95 USD, which is mainly aimed at the grass-roots market. Springfield .30-06 and Winchester .270 ammunition were originally used. 1959 introduced the short bolt stroke version using 243 Winchester and 308 Winchester 1 10. In the same year, 1 10 became the first left-handed version of the civil latch rifle. In 1966, the design of 1 10 was improved to improve the performance and reduce the number of production contractors, including the new adjustable trigger and the shell throwing tappet installed in the bolt.
1988 When Savage filed for bankruptcy protection, 1 10 was the only product retained, which was the key to Savage's comeback as the third largest rifle manufacturer in the United States.

design
Savage 1 10 is designed from an economic point of view and pursues low cost. Many small parts are made by investment casting and stamping. The bolt and barrel are made of forged steel. The barrel is screwed into the shell according to the thread and fixed with a large lock nut, and the rear seat lug is squeezed in the middle. This design enables the space between the bottom of the cartridge case and the head of the bolt (that is, the "bolt top space") to be fine-tuned, so that the relatively cheap rifle 1 10 can have high precision potential. The design of the case and bolt of 1 10 also makes the assembly very easy, and it is easy to manufacture the left-handed version.
Another feature of 1 10 is the design of "floating" gun head, which makes the gun face and barrel breech as close as possible and minimizes the space of gun head to increase accuracy. The bolt head can be replaced, which means that users can replace barrels with different shell diameters.
The safety design of 1 10 is formulated as three levels (release in the front position, lock the trigger in the middle, but the bolt can be moved, and lock the trigger and bolt in the last position), which is directly installed behind the gearbox and the bolt. The bolt release lever is installed behind the shell throwing hole on the right side of the bolt.
