What technology is Ips?

IPS technology is a display technology successfully developed by Hitachi in Japan in 1996. It is a wide viewing angle technology of LCD, which is widely used in the manufacture of LCD TV, and can effectively improve the color difference of TN screen when the viewing angle is not good.

The principle of IPS technology

In the off state, because the polarization axis of the input polarizer is parallel to the liquid crystal molecular director, the incident polarized light will not rotate, so a good black state and a wide viewing angle can be obtained.

In the on state, because the transverse electric field between the comb-shaped digital electrode and the anode electrode and the dielectric anisotropy of the liquid crystal are less than zero, the liquid crystal molecules turn to the vertical direction of the electric field, forming birefringence, outputting elliptically polarized light, and part of the light leaks out of the analytical polarization and becomes bright.

Advantages and disadvantages of IPS technology

Advantages:

The difference between IPS and TN+ membrane technology is that the arrangement direction of liquid crystal molecules is parallel to the glass substrate. Using IPS or Super TFT technology, the viewing angle can be enlarged to 170 degrees, just like the viewing angle of CRT display.

Disadvantages:

Because of the arrangement direction of liquid crystal, its electrodes can only be placed on one side of two glass plates, and these electrodes must be arranged on the lower surface like a comb. This will lead to the decline of contrast, so it is necessary to strengthen the brightness of backlight, the contrast of IPS mode and the response time, which are not improved compared with the traditional TFT-TN.

Present situation of IPS technology

At present, SIPS technology is developed on the basis of IPS technology, which further improves the product performance.

The viewing angle of S-IPS can be increased to 170, and it also has a good effect in improving image quality and color table. Hitachi has licensed S-IPS technology to LG- Philips and Chimei in Taiwan Province Province, China, and LG- Philips is expected to shorten the response time to 5 milliseconds by improving S-IPS technology. The panels produced by Hitachi and Taiwan Province Caijing are manufactured by AS-IPS technology. Panasonic and Toshiba are also loyal supporters of IPS technology.
