Introduction:

Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is the Chinese government’s implementation of the ex-situ conservation of giant pandas and other endangered wild animals. One of the main research bases of the project is a well-known research institution for the protection of giant pandas and other rare and endangered wild animals in my country and even the world, which integrates giant panda scientific research and breeding, conservation education, educational tourism, and panda cultural construction.

Base history:

The Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Base was established on the basis of the Chengdu Zoo’s raising, treatment, and breeding of giant pandas. In the 1980s, the bamboos bloomed and died in the Qionglai Mountains. Some giant pandas were rescued and sent to the Chengdu Zoo due to lack of food and hunger.

Organizational structure:

According to the base’s official website information in May 2017, the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding implements a three-level management system of “Director’s Office – Department (Center) – Team” management mode. The Director's Office has 5 leadership positions, including 1 director and 4 deputy directors (including deputy secretaries). The Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Base has five internal departments, namely: General Secretary Department, Animal Breeding and Management Department, Animal Disease Prevention and Control Department, Animal Protection Research Center, and Dujiangyan Wild Release Breeding Research Center.

Scientific Research Overview:

As of 2016, it has successively undertaken 1 national major basic research preliminary research project (former "973" project), and the national "10th Five-Year Plan" high-tech research project ( "863" Program) project and multiple provincial, ministerial and municipal scientific research projects and scientific research projects of the Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Foundation. More than 70 scientific research projects have won national, provincial and municipal technological invention awards and scientific and technological progress awards. , and obtained 14 national invention and utility model patents.
