The Department of Geological Science and Engineering (hereinafter referred to as the Department of Geology) mainly undertakes the teaching and research work of doctoral program in mineral survey and exploration, first-class master program in geological resources and geological engineering, master program in paleontology stratigraphy, master program in geological engineering and undergraduate major in geological engineering, and shoulders the heavy responsibility of teaching reform and training young teachers in our school. The Department of Geology has a strong faculty, including 7 professors, 9 doctors and doctoral students, all of whom have master's degrees. The teachers in the Department of Geology are rigorous in their studies, meticulous in their teaching and innovative. The "Research and Practice of Undergraduate Teaching Evaluation Scheme at Ministerial Level" won the first prize of teaching achievement in Henan Province, and the "Reform and Practice of Talent Training Mode, Teaching Content and Curriculum System" won the second prize of teaching achievement in Henan Province. The discipline of geological engineering is to use geological theory to study the exploration methods of various mineral resources and groundwater resources (resource geological exploration) and the exploration methods of geological conditions of various engineering construction sites (engineering geological exploration). Among them, mineral resources include energy minerals, metal minerals, non-metal minerals, water and natural gas minerals. And engineering geological exploration includes roads, bridges, reservoirs, buildings, etc.

Development history

Formerly known as coalfield geology and exploration, hydrogeology and engineering geology, it is a 4-year undergraduate, and was founded in 1960 Zhengzhou Institute of Coal Industry. 196 1 year1October, with the merger of Zhengzhou Institute of Coal Industry into Jiaozuo Mining Institute. 1984 according to the catalogue of undergraduate engineering majors in colleges and universities issued by the Ministry of Education, the major of coalfield geology and exploration was renamed as the major of coalfield geological exploration. 1994, the major of coalfield geological exploration was renamed as the major of geological and mineral exploration. 1998 according to the catalogue of oriented majors for engineering undergraduates promulgated by the Ministry of education, the specialty of geology and mineral exploration was adjusted, merged with the specialty of hydrogeology and engineering geology, and the specialty of geological engineering was established. 198 1, the major of coalfield geology and exploration began to recruit graduate students. At present, mineral exploration and geological engineering of this major has the right to grant master's degrees. Among them, the discipline of mineral exploration is the first provincial and ministerial key discipline recognized by the former Ministry of Coal Industry and the Henan Provincial Education Commission, and it has the right to award doctoral degrees.

Has a strong, profound theoretical attainments, rich experience in teaching and scientific research, the combination of old, middle-aged and young teachers. This discipline is at the leading level in the research fields of tracer theory and application, gas geology, coalbed methane geology and bedrock water transport theory, and some of them have reached the international research level. Participated in organizing and attending international academic conferences for many times.

This discipline has great influence in domestic academic circles, and has good scientific research cooperation and academic exchange relations with the University of Reading in the UK, Lille University of Science and Technology in France, Turkmen University in Argentina and Tsukuba University in Japan.

(1) Theory and application direction of trace science-academic leaders: Professor Hu Bin and Dr. Qi Yongan.

Trace science is an interdisciplinary frontier discipline, which integrates sedimentology, paleontology, stratigraphy and geochemistry, and uses various structures and fabrics produced by organisms in the process of sedimentary diagenesis to identify different types of sedimentary environments and different levels of sequence boundaries.

Since 1980s, the research results of tracer science have been widely used in basin environmental interpretation, filling history, reservoir prediction and oil and gas field exploration and development.

In China, this direction introduces the theories of trace science and event sedimentology to China for the first time. In order to popularize trace science and its research results, researchers in this discipline have held special lectures or seminars on trace science in Changsha, Wuhan, Luoyang, Nanjing, Guiyang, Dongying and other places at the invitation of various domestic departments, invited famous foreign scholars to give lectures and visit in China many times, sent people out to study, give lectures, visit and attend academic conferences many times, and guided some foreign graduate students.

In recent years, researchers in this discipline have successively undertaken the national "Ninth Five-Year Plan" and "Tenth Five-Year Plan" scientific and technological research projects and the National Natural Science Foundation projects. Professor Wu Xiantao, Professor Hu Bin and Dr Qi Yongan were entrusted by the Earth Science Department of Chinese Academy of Sciences to review individual applications of the National Natural Science Foundation.

(b) Gas Geology and Coalbed Methane Direction-Academic Leaders: Professor Su Xianbo and Professor Zixu Zhang.

Mine gas is a hidden danger that causes serious and malignant accidents in coal mines, and it has been threatening the safe production of coal mines for a long time. At the same time, gas (coalbed methane) is also a new energy source. Gas geology and coalbed methane research, applying geological theories and methods to study the occurrence, migration and distribution of coal seam gas, the prediction method of mine gas emission and coal and gas outburst, and the exploration and development technology of coalbed methane.

Since 1970s, our direction has been devoted to the research of basic theory and applied technology of gas geology for a long time. For the first time, he undertook the research topic of gas geology included in the ministerial scientific research plan; The first academic monograph of gas geology in China, Introduction to Gas Geology, was published. Recruited the first graduate student of gas geology; The first academic conference on gas geology in China was organized.

In the past 30 years, the research direction of gas geology has successively undertaken more than 20 research topics of gas geology, such as national key scientific and technological projects in the Seventh Five-Year Plan, the Eighth Five-Year Plan, the Ninth Five-Year Plan, the National Natural Science Foundation project and provincial-level scientific research projects, and won the second prize of national excellent teaching achievement 1, the provincial-level scientific and technological progress award1,and the national. The above research results laid a foundation for the formation and development of gas geology in China, and made gas geology gradually develop into a new frontier discipline in China.

Since 1993, the research direction has involved the study of coalbed methane geology and exploration and development technology, which has certain influence in China.

"Fracture Types and Causes of Coal in North China" is the first project on coalbed methane funded by the National Natural Science Foundation, reaching the leading level in China. The project "Development Technology of Coalbed Methane' Roof Reservoir Strengthening Method' in Tectonic Coal Development Zone" was funded by Henan Science and Technology Commission.
