Wang Xuan boldly chose a technological leap and directly developed the fourth generation laser phototypesetting system, which has no products in the west. In view of the characteristics and difficulties of Chinese characters, he invented the high-magnification information compression technology and high-speed restoration method of high-resolution glyphs, took the lead in designing the corresponding special chip, and used the "parameter description method" to describe the characteristics of strokes for the first time in the world, and obtained invention patents in Europe and China. These achievements ushered in a brand-new era of Chinese character printing, which triggered the technological revolution of "farewell to lead and fire, stepping into light and electricity" in China newspaper industry and printing and publishing industry, and completely changed the movable type printing technology used in China for hundreds of years. The domestic laser phototypesetting system has enabled the traditional publishing and printing industry in China to complete the technological transformation from typesetting to laser phototypesetting in just a few years. It is recognized as the second revolution of printing technology in China after Bi Sheng invented movable type printing.
