What is the level of the Great Wall DHT hybrid technology?
To be fair, the Great Wall DHT has some imitations and originality. Imitation is the working principle and structure of the whole system similar to Honda's i-MMD. At low speed, it is driven by a motor; at high speed, the engine and the motor are driven together; at low power, the engine drives the vehicle while generating electricity.
But this can't blame the Great Wall, because Toyota has built a high hybrid patent barrier, and only Honda's hybrid solution can bypass these blockades. Others can only imitate Honda, including BYD's DM-i hybrid.
As for innovation, it is mixed in the double reducer. The Great Wall DHT hybrid engine is always connected with the generator. When the speed is relatively high, the engine drives the vehicle. At this time, if you want to speed up overtaking, the generator will consume part of the power of the engine and make you feel that overtaking is very slow.
Therefore, the Great Wall added a double reducer at the joint of DHT engine and generator. When driving at high speed and at a constant speed, the engine drives the generator through the high gear. When stepping on the accelerator to overtake at high speed, the reducer will switch to the low gear to reduce the power loss of the engine.
In the logic of low-speed hybrid, DHT and Honda i-MMD are also different. Honda's i-MMD can still rely on pure electric drive when driving to 60km/h, while DHT's engine has been involved in driving around 35km/h, so the power connection and ride comfort of DHT are quite good, but the fuel consumption will be higher. According to official data, the fuel consumption of the high-power version of the DHT hybrid system is 5L/ 100km in urban working conditions, the high speed of the hybrid Accord is 6.5L/ 100km, and the NEDC is 4.2L/ 100km.
abstract
There is no doubt that the future will be a pure electric world, but for a long time to come, hybrid power with both power performance and fuel economy will be the mainstream. Moreover, the development of hybrid power will help enterprises to transition users who have accumulated fuel vehicles to pure electric vehicles in the future. It is a correct choice for Great Wall to invest three years in developing DHT hybrid power.
