Tesla FSD will have a major improvement or stop using radar sensors.

Recently, elon musk, CEO of Tesla, posted new information about the beta version of FSD on Twitter, saying that the new beta version of FSD has ushered in a major improvement.

The important news revealed is that the new system will stop using radar sensors and rely entirely on cameras.

At present, Tesla vehicles have 1 front radar sensors, 8 cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors.

In the future, Tesla vehicles will no longer use radar sensors. Musk also confirmed that in future production, the vehicle will cancel the radar sensor and will not be kept as a backup device.

Previously, Tesla obtained a new patent.

Tesla obtained a new patent for "estimating object attributes by using visual image data", aiming at reducing the increasing cost and complexity of visual sensors for autonomous vehicles.

This method allows the vehicle to detect and explain the distance from the surrounding environment through image data and machine learning.

This patent uses two neural networks and only uses image data to measure the distance from the object. One of the neural networks can determine the distance between the object and the image taken by the car camera.

Another neural network creates training materials for the former in the form of labeled images.

In this patent, Tesla said that it is necessary to determine the appropriate number of sensors without limiting the amount of data captured and processed by on-board sensors.

Tesla said that vision sensors, such as radar, lidar and ultrasonic sensors, are expensive to install and will increase the "input bandwidth requirements" of autonomous driving systems.
